Meet the Author

Robyn O’Brien is the founder of AllergyKids. She has been featured in the New York Times and has appeared on CNN, Good Morning America, and the CBS Early Show and Evening News. She lives with her family in Boulder, Colorado.

Rachel Kranz is a novelist, nonfiction writer, and playwright who lives in New York City. Her most recent novel is Leaps of Faith (2000).

This is a great book - it's well written, hard to put down, ad SCARY. Makes you want to avoid eatting. My kids are reading labels now and are being proactive about their food choices and their health. I have definitely seen a change in my son now that we have eliminated artificial colors. He is a DIFFERENT KID! Read labels on lotions, etc. - you will be shocked to see that dyes are used in products that are not even colored! We are throwing out lotions, shampoos and body sprays because of the dyes. I recommend this book - Robyn is a maverick and I appreciate her bravery to question authority. You go girl!

It's titled "The Unhealthy Truth". You might call it the scary truth. At any rate, it's still the truth. Robyn O'Brian, admittedly not a medical expert or experienced writer, has written a book extremely relevant for anyone interested at all in their health or the health of their children. She is the first person I am aware of to tackle the issues of genetically modified foods, the food allergy epidemic among U.S. children, the impact of artifical ingredients in our food supply and how this all relates. O'Brien poses crucial questions such as: Why are Americans eating foods that are banned in Europe and other countries? Why don't other countries have a food allergy epidemic like the one in the U.S? Why isn't the U.S. goverment informing the public better and/or exerting more safety regulations? As the mother of children with food allergies, I devoured this book which examines many ideas I have considered and observed myself. However, this is not a book only about food allergies. It is an eye-opening look at the food Americans are buying and eating. O'Brien also offers practical advice on going organic without spending a fortune. This book should be sent to every member of Congress. Thank you Robyn for writing this book.

Excellent book asking the reader to take a stand and face the truth about the foods we consume, feed our families and market to other countries. Genetiacally Modified Foods are the greatest danger we face in the food industry. Please read the book and act. I am not a crazy foodist, I know first hand what GMO soy can do to a body.

O'Brian repeatedly touted the fact that she has an MBA, since when does that make a nutritionist? She has a noble cause, protecting children. Yes, the FDA is basically run by the food industry. Apparently, this took O'Brien by surprise? She got "depressed" over it. All the god fearing American values she learned from for patriotic father and mother who never questioned him, all these idealist visions were "shattered." Oh the drama! It is hard to take her seriously when she refers to herself as "Mama Bear." But hey! Hats off! She got herself a book deal. That's more than I got. This book is for stay at home moms who don't know any better. If you want a more authoritative view of the impact of, processing, chemicals, toxins, hormones, ect., on our diet and our children's diet, I suggest What To Eat, by Marion Nestle.
