Unicorn Witch III (Return to Earth) By Derek White
Great for Young Adults
This book picked up shortly after Unicorn Witches: The Vengeance of the Godhe. Major Deanna Aristo, daughter of the late Borl Aristo, convinces the whole Godhe council to come to the primitive world or Refuge. This meeting is to discuss the future of Refuge. In the last book, we saw members of the Godhe race deciding to stay on Refuge and marry people on Refuge. Frank is the only non-magical person on Refuge but he is brilliant and wants to help. The major request that the locales have is a request to return to Earth and recruit scientists that can help the Godhe with their issues with the males.
As you can guess from the title, some members return to Earth. We see many of the same great characters from the first two books and of course new ones. Lace/Melanie again brings in some interesting moral questions. Some major new characters are Beverley Carpenter and Dr. Drake Howicz. They both have major roles but for different reasons. We see how non-primitive Refuge and the people of Refuge are. We also see how useful cooperation really is and why diversity is the key to success.
Our beloved Refuges are many and the new characters just add to the numbers. Mr. White has a charters index that tells who/what the characters are at the beginning of the book. The preface is also great and gives a plot synopsis of the first two books so that you can read just this book, however reading all three books in order really is the best way to fully understand and appreciate this wonderful world and series. Mr. White ties up all the plots but leaves room for another series perhaps about Beverley or more about the Godhe.
I truly enjoyed this series. All three books are well written and intriguing. They bring up interesting social issues that we all deal with but not in such a way as to be depressing or to make fun of the issues. I am looking forward to reading more of Mr. Whites work.
