Overview

In a world where writings on nonprofit and philanthropy are often stiff and dense, one man dares to be different. That man, instead of writing a grant proposal that was due, started NonprofitAF.com. Each Monday saw a new post filled with wry observations about fundraising and boards, jokes about meetings and hummus, and consistent use of the Oxford Comma. Unicorns on Fire is a collection of 48 posts, some of which are consequential and others completely useless but fun to read. It represents 10 years of observations and shenanigans. You will laugh. You will think. You will flip over a table. You will wonder why there are no pictures of baby animals like there are on the blog. They were too expensive to include in this book.

About the Author

Vu Le, with one E and pronounced "voo lay," has spent most of his life in the nonprofit sector, where he was an Executive Director for over 13 years across two organizations. Known for his sense of humor, equity analysis, and no-BS truth-telling, Vu has been featured in dozens, if not hundreds, of his own blog posts at NonprofitAF.com. Vu is now "financially untethered" (FU) and spends his time doing what he does best: eating chocolate and rabblerousing.

Norea Hoeft is a writer and editor focused on magnifying the voices of those most adversely affected by entrenched inequities. With over 20 years of experience in communications, primarily in the nonprofit sector, she has a passion for partnering with pioneers in the field of racial equity.

Kishshana Palmer is an international speaker, trainer, and coach with a 20+ year background in fundraising, marketing, and talent management.A keen strategist and driving force behind many wildly successful leadership initiatives, Kishshana has served as a fundraising consultant for dozens of nonprofits and organizations, raising in excess of $100 million dollars. Her foundational business skills include cultivating an internal talent pipeline, managing leadership and employee attrition, and meeting diversity goals. She is also the founder of The Rooted Collaborative -- a global online community for nonwhite women in the social sector. She's the host of the podcast "Let's Take This Offline", an adjunct professor at Baruch College, a Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE), a BoardSource Certified Governance Trainer (CGT), A Gallup Certified Strengths Coach, and an AFP Master Trainer. When an organization wants to grow, find and retain people on their team, raise money, and more she is the fairy godmother they have on speed dial.
