    The Complete Official US Chess Federation Rules

    You will find the complete rules of chess as authorized by the US Chess Federation which have only slight differences than the International Chess Federation (FIDE). If you are a tournament player, a tournament director or chess coach then ownership of this book is a must! It tends to be very technical and spends a lot of time on rules that the average player will likely never come across. Hence, the language is sometimes not so clear for the newcomer to chess (which is not what this book is well designed for). To suppliment this book so there is more of a focus on the rules that are practical and of most importance I suggest getting WINNING CHESS TOURNAMENTS (for the novice this book should come first). Together these books form perfect partners, even for more advanced players.

    Complete Coverage of the Official Rules

    This book has complete coverage of the Official Rules of Chess. Every tournament player, tournament director and chess teachere should own a copy. It makes a great reference book as well as general guide to study every rule on the game. It does tend to be very dry and dull reading. Therefore, as a companion book I suggest getting 'Winning Chess Tournaments for Juniors' which points out the most important rules on a practical basis while making them a bit more clear and easy to understand (it also points out weak points of the rules and will show you how to use the rules to your favor). Getting these two books together will give you a complete package!
