Children's Literature - Emily Hearn
Beautiful photographs illustrate various areas of the United States, its history, and its citizens in this interesting overview of our country. Books in this revised edition of "The Lands Peoples, and Cultures" series present information about U.S. geography, natives, beginnings, history, struggles and wars, conflicts among citizens, economy, expansion, and growth. Current statistics and snapshots of the U.S. with its diverse population and cultures are provided. Contrasts between areas, such as large cities and agricultural communities, are drawn. One section highlights the armed forces and the various types of missions they tackle. Rites of passage for children and adults of different cultures are introduced. Types of schooling are discussed. A day in the life of a child with a variety of interests can be found. Some of our favorite sports, kinds of exercise, and pastimes are presented. Foods enjoyed in our country, along with problems they can cause, are shown. A table of contents, a glossary, and an index are included. More maps would be useful to help readers locate the areas discussed in the text. Reviewer: Emily Hearn
