I stumbled upon this CD while browsing in store, and gave a sample listen that grabbed my attention. Having never heard Anthony Gomes, I was astonished. An absolutely phenomenal blues, soul singer and a monster guitarist who can get as "funky as you wannabe." Very tight band with horns and energetic backup singing. Great production, solid songwriting, and every cut offers something unique. I can only imagine how much fun it will be to see this band perform. I really liked the very gospel-tinged numbers "Goin Down Slow" and "Darkest before the Dawn," but the uptempo stuff will not let you go. A wonderful mix of time-honored music traditions, but the performance is so urgent and fresh you don't realize it until after you stop listening to the CD and think about it. Also, I suggest you visit the Anthony Gomes website and listen to "Love's Got the Power" from an earlier CD. You listen to this superb singer/musician and compare his talents to some of the current best-selling recording "artists", and have to wonder about the state of American civilisation!
