Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
Carla Birnbaum, a former Cosmopolitan editor, writes about beauty and grooming for Elle, InStyle, Martha Stewart Living, and Redbook. To write this truly multicultural guide to beauty, shetapped the expertise of no fewer than 20 former Miss Universe title holders. In addition to pageant beauty secrets and professional tips, Universal Beauty provides a rare behind-the-scenes look at how beauty queens maintain their looks after their crowning experience.
Library Journal
Former Miss Universe winners and professionals who work with the contestants share beauty regimens, tips, and insights in this guide by beauty editor and writer Birnbaum. The beauty advice, whether for skin, hair, or makeup, is standard stuff (e.g., apply sunscreen, wear moisturizer). As a result, the guide works better as a pictorial history and behind-the-scenes look at the Miss Universe pageant. Also included are a foreword by Donald Trump, who along with NBC owns the Miss Universe Organization; a short chapter on teen beauty by Miss Teen USA winners, which seems out of place; and a Q&A with Miss Universe title holders, which ends the guide. Recommended only for large public libraries.-Christine Holmes, San Jose State Univ. Lib., CA Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.

    Meh.

Although Universal Beauty was an interesting book, and I did pick up a couple of useful little hints that I can use in my every day life, on the whole, this book was difficult to read due to its poor orginization and other things. Somtimes I had a hard time undrstanding how to do the things they were trying to describe. But I stil give Kudos to Cara for writing th book bcause this type of book is dificult to write i understand, and I woud still buy this book for friends as gifts if, for no other reson, just bcause of the beautiful pictures, and the interesting history about the Miss Univrse Compitition. All in all, I'd say that this was a grat book basic make up application, but anything lse outside of that just wasn't portrayed very well, I didn't think.

    Excellent Book!!!

I have watched the Miss Universe Pageants for years and always wondered how their make-up was done, how they stay in shape, etc., and with this book I found out. This book gives you tips on make-up and hair. Tips that I can apply to my everyday life. It is a girl's best friend!

    EXCELLENT!

I read this book and I can truly say that the book is very enjoyable. Apart from that the best miss Universe in my opinion (Miss Dominican Republic 2003) was chosen for the cover.
