Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Seth Berg
AsterPlanet is part of the MultiHue galaxy, and was formerly known as "UniWorld" before it was broken into pieces by an angry comet. Assorted aliens are involved in an attempt to save their world. This book appears to have been written and drawn by a normally "gifted" second grader. Which is to say, a "gifted" third grader could do better. The bright yellows and reds in the illustrations are a painful complement to the error-ridden prose. Tenses shift back and forth, and there are glaring grammatical mistakes with agreement and number. Even more alarming than the garish illustrations is a narrative based on "tell don't show" and a plot that fails to achieve any kind of suspense or climax. Worst of all, the story combines good educational science with a ridiculous fantasy world where nothing is scientific. Being hit by an asteroid would be preferable to reading any more of these chronicles. The only use that one can imagine for this book is to show second graders how good their work is by comparison. This is volume 1 of the "AsterPlanet Chronicles."
