Overview

After suffering an accidental blow to the head which resulted in a brain injury, a young mother's life is forever changed. Writing entirely from the author's point of view, Lisa Mack-Finn describes the heart-wrenching night she began documenting her thoughts as a means of therapy. Hidden behind sunglasses, curtain drawn rooms and seeking refuge from noise and light, she secretly began to list all of the things that she was worthy and deserving of. The list transpired into a thought provoking series of -Unknowns that were never intended to become public, until now. Carefully selected by the author, the -Unknowns are meant to empower anyone at a loss or looking for validation that they are not alone. Using a raw, witty, and provocative voice, Lisa shares her journey as lessons learned which is ultimately paving her way towards peace.

Meet the Author

Lisa Mack-Finn lives in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with her three children, cat and dog! This is her first published piece, with a romance novel in progress! Lisa went on hiatus from writing a romance novel when she suffered a brain injury. The injury prompted her to begin documenting her thoughts for the now self titled memoir, "-Unknown". Concussion topics have been highly publicized in the media. Lisa felt that her journey and experiences at the hands of the concussion symptoms needed a voice. Her life was turned inside out through the physical symptoms, divorce, and a triumph amidst it all. Lisa shares her story so that other concussion survivors understand that when they are in the midst of the hell, they are not going crazy; they are not alone.

Lisa sums it up best by stating, "I think the hardest part for me was recognizing that there was nothing I could do but surrender to the idea that my brain and body needed time to heal. I am still dealing with lingering physical effects of the injury. I know now that concussions don't just affect athletes and football players. You can fall on your butt and get a concussion. We need to be better educated that it is a very scary process in waiting for the brain and body to heal. It is hills and valleys, good days and bad. A lot of people don't understand because you can't see the injury like a broken arm. We need to have better support groups out there! I want to start the discussion."
