Overview

From nationally bestselling author Kristina Cook comes an award-winning historical romance set in Regency England--first time in digital!

All Lucy Abbington wants is to get through her first London season without losing sight of her true ambition—gaining some informal training in veterinary arts so that she can retire peacefully to the countryside with her beloved horses. Instead, she’s caught up in a whirlwind of balls, marriage proposals, and ton intrigues. Worse, she finds herself irresistibly drawn to her sponsors’ maddening neighbor, Henry Ashton, the Marquess of Mandeville. The handsome, arrogant, sometimes infuriating Mandeville stokes a passionate fire within her that won’t be denied, no matter the consequence.

Deep, emotional scars secretly plague Henry, Lord Mandeville. As a result, he’s avoided romantic entanglements at all costs. Only, now he needs a wife—someone from a wealthy, powerful family to further his political aspirations. Instead, he finds himself all but obsessed with the beautiful but unconventional Lucy Abbington—a woman whose passions and wit stir desires he’d rather ignore. And yet…she might just be the one woman who can heal his wounded heart.

Lucy and Henry’s heads say no, but their hearts say yes. Will they find themselves undone by love?

    Harriet klausner

Of course we have harriet klausner with hercliffnote book report ruining the book for all other readers. I certainly wish bn would ban this plot spoiling poster and delete all her plot spoiling posts. She ruins every book she touches.

    more from this reviewer

    Great Regency romance

In 1817, his widow mother tries to pressure her son the Marquess Henry Ashton to marry and sire the heir and the spare. He refuses to allow his cold mom any say in his life though he agrees with her assessment that he needs to marry. However, Henry rejects her mother¿s choice of a wife Charlotte Haverford though her pedigree is perfect and she is pretty............................ While out riding, Henry¿s horse goes lame. A woman in breeches notices his steed¿s gait faltering and provides assistance to the horse. Henry learns that the unique Lady Lucy Abbinstall wants to become a veterinarian, a male only occupation performed exclusively by non aristocrats. As he begins to see Lucy at Ton events, they fall in love, but she knows she is beneath his status and besides he fears love following how his intelligent father married the termagant he calls mother................... This engaging Regency romance will have the audience rooting for the delightfully refreshing heroine (not just feisty and independent she has ambitions) to rope in her Marquess. The story line is fun to follow as Henry has issues involving love and relationships and Lucy has goals that set her up for ridicule by her peers. Though his mom is the mother from a frozen hell, fans will appreciate this finely cooked repast............................ Harriet Klausner

    The right stuff

This was an easy 240 pg read. Good story line and characters. Steamy and a little wicked but just a enough not to take away from the story. My only complaint is that the heorine should have had a little more backbone with the hero. Read and see if you agree he got forgiveness to easily.

    GOOD STORY-NO STEAM

Lucy is a wanna be vet. Not something attainable in that time period. Henry the marquis--is a wanna be human being and he takes a long time to get it right. His mother is so nasty--mother teresa would slap her silly. On a sensual scale of 1-10-- it is a dull 1 and you wait until the last few pages of the book. Throw in a few catty i wanna be a bride of a marquis and you have an ok read. If nothing else you want to see lucy shine with the animals and henry trying not to be one. And mommy dearest--will she get whats coming to her??

    Sweet, emotional read

I enjoyed this book very much. Overcoming emotional scars to find true passion and love make for a beautiful HEA. This book is part of a series. Well written 244 pages.

    Excellent Regency Romance novel

Regency England historical romances are my favorite, and this one has enough twists and turns to keep it interesting. Couldn't put it down.
