Overview

In late December 2008, Ian Halperin told the world that Michael Jackson had only six months to live. His investigations into Jackson’s failing health made headlines around the globe. Six months later, the King of Pop was dead.

Whatever the final autopsy results reveal, it was greed that killed Michael Jackson. Friends and associates paint a tragic picture of the last years and days of his life as Jackson made desperate attempts to prepare for the planned concert series at London’s 02 Arena in July 2009. These shows would have earned millions for the singer and his entourage, but he could never have completed them, not mentally, and not physically. Michael knew it and his advisors knew it. Anyone who caught even a fleeting glimpse of the frail old man hiding beneath the costumes and cosmetics would have understood that the London tour was madness. Why did it happen this way? After an intense five year investigation, “New York Times” bestselling author Ian Halperin uncovers the real story of Michael Jackson’s final years, a suspenseful and surprising thriller.

MJ: The Lies and the Truth

Author Ian Halperin has recently pinned a book that is like reading the Ultimate MJ Encyclopedia of Tabloids: 2003-2009. While his investigation on the Trial was pretty interesting, it is other insinuations that are sickening and should not be speculated. One is the insinuation that Michael was Homosexual, according to fictional "Romantic" sources and imaginative close "Confidants". Another is that he was a Nymphomaniac and often fantasized about sensationalized Celebrity Orgies. However, out of all of these one has been talked about for the last six months. That he was suffering from a rare lung disease that crippled his singing ability and his simple ability to talk.

Halperin himself has been waffling these days. In a blog he had written about Michael a couple of weeks ago he crudely joked that "Michael's camp has to clean his butthole for disease. It takes about 30 minutes to get all of the dirt out of there". Than suddenly Michael dies and Halperin claims to be a "Huge Michael fan and a fierce supporter".

I am a gossipy type of person, and I do like to read occassional gossip. This was entertaining only because of the fact that it was very intriguing. I know how to seperate fact and fiction and some of the fiction in this book had me laughing so hard.

However as stated earlier, Halperin's in depth investigation into the Trial was indeed the biggest high light of the book. He uses intricate and complesive styles that puts you in the middle and most of all into Michael's world. Halperin's "revelations" are interesting for the common-reader and it will grab your attention if your into National Enquirer.

I wouldn't suggest this book for Hardcore Jackson supporters simply because the gossip may anger you. However, if you would like to get a different perspective on Michael's lifestyle by all means read it.

I deeply suggest reading "The Magic and the Madness" by J. Randy Tarraborrelli another sensationalized, gossip book that is actually much more factual that this book. It puts you into Michael's world, a world that is always invaded by Cameras and malicious intent.

    God Bless!

    What a Waste!

This title is totally misleading! This book, by an admitted homosexual, is not about MJ's last days. The entire book is about the molestation accusations and trial. The book repeats itself from one paragraph to the next as well as one chapter to the next. This was really a big disappointment. I finished the book over the weekend and on Saturday the E channel had a documentary about MJ on. Everything that I had read so far in this book was on that documentary. This is a horrible bit of capitalism on the author's part and should not be allowed. I urge everyone to NOT BUY THIS BOOK. You will be very disappointed! Instead watch the movie, "The Jackson's: An American Dream". That movie, along with the documentaries that are currently running, are much more informative, and probably accurate, than this piece of trash!

    Don't waste your money!!

As a lover of gossipy tell-alls about celebrities, I was expecting a little bang for my buck. There is very little new or interesting in this tedious tome. The writing is stilted, unbelievably repetitive, and does not reflect the title. A good two-thirds of the book is spent on long, dull narrative about the two major child abuse charges in MJ's life. The author is obviously quite self-involved and cannot sing his own praises often enough. I thought this would be my guilty pleasure for this summer, but it is a DUD! It is the first book I erased from my Kindle. If you are curious, borrow it. Or better yet, spill coffee on it at your local BN.

It's like reading the National Inquire full of shady allegations

    "Unmasked" By Ian Halperin
This book is the ultimate tabloid read! Although the chapters about Jacksons court case were informative; Halperin reverts to a tabloid style of writing to end his book. Phantom male lovers and their supposed intimate escapades with the King of Pop is something only to be laughed at. Halperin contradicts his claims about Michaels supposed affairs when he says that Michael would meet these men in run down motels to keep things secretive. But then says that these silent lovers had intimate pictures of themselves and Jackson. Why would Jackson go through all of that to keep the affair secret and then take photos with his lovers that could be exposed to the world? Imaginary photos is what they are. It is well known that Michael was always careful of germs; but Halperin wants people to believe that Michael would go to run down rat/roach infested motels? I also found it interesting that Halperine met Jackson only once under false pretences. It seems to me that Ian Halperin is trying to stir up controversy concerning Jackson's image. He is out to make money off of the fairy tales in his mind. Throughout the years Michael Jackson has been constantly hounded by the media. Why, with all of the investigators that have studied him, including a ET reporter, Diane Diamond have they not found such men with allegations like these before? I will tell you why, because these allegations are completely fabricated by a man who has no scruples and lacks all trace of human disancy! I find it suspicious that this book would have come out in time to cast a dark shadow over Jackson's concerts in London. Having to fight an allegation he adamantly denied years ago would have only served to cause him more grief! Halperin is a wolf in sheeps clothing and still very much anti-Jackson. He has been quoted saying negative things about Jackson up until he died. Now suddenly he wants to make it seemed like he was on Michael's side. The only truth this man has told is that he originally set out to destroy Michael and this is clearly his objective. This web of obvious lies is so easy to see through that it's embarassing!
In his interview Helparin's posture was defensive and gave off an untruthful vibe. Halperin kept adverting his eyes, he held his head kind of down or to the left. It was like he couldn't even believe what was coming out of his mouth. The ET reporter, Diane Diamond said that she had been studying and reporting on Jackson for years and that she never found such evidence! After talking with the tv network reps concerning Halperin, they say that Mr. Helparin came across as being dishonest.

    UNMASKED

I find it totally inappropriate to speculate on facts which we are not sure, even worse when we talk about the image of a famous person.
Nobody will eve know the true circumstances surrounding the life and death of Michael Jackson, so I think it is best for everybody to mind their own business and to leave the King of Pop rest in peace.

Changed My Mind About Buying This Book

Thank God I read the reviews on this website--I WAS so unbelievably close to buying this book, but definitely NOT NOW. I despise the tabloids when they don't know how to be honest. I grew up listening to MJ's music and I loved him--still do. I really do miss his unique style of singing and dancing. And in my heart as well as my head, I know he wasn't guilty of those terrible allegations(the worst). I don't need to read this book to know that. And his accusers should be ashamed because they destoyed him. How could anybody want to hurt him this way? Because he had money? And as far as him being gay, I will never believe that one either, not in a million years. Just because Michael didn't sleep around with everything on two legs doesn't mean he was gay. Michael was pure, and more important--he wasn't a color. He loved all people, rich or poor, black or white. It didn't matter to him. He was a kindred soul and he deserved to be treated much better than he was. And I sincerely hope the tabloids stop bashing him soon because it's really getting old. Please, Please, Please, have some consideration for him as well as his family and children. After all, they just lost a beloved family member and I can only imagine what all this negativity is doing to them (especially his children). If you want to read a couple good books, read "Moonwalk" and "Dancing the Dream" written by Michael himself. Those are a couple books that will give you some insight into what kind of person he really was. Rest in Peace Michael. We truly do miss you. You were definitely ONE OF A KIND.

    Remembering Michael Jackson

I think it is truely sad that the world sees Michael's talent 'now' when he has passed away. His music sales and book sales are ridiculously high! Where were all of these so called "fans" when Michael needed his fans support during the hard times in his life? We are all so quick to place Michael under a microscope to examine every detail of his life. We all has a past. We all have history. We all have made bad choices in our lives. But we would never tolerate it if others examined every detail of our life like the media and the people are doing to Michael. Instead of focusing on things that were private to Michael, and truely are none of our business to begin with, why can't we just be thankful that Michael blessed so many people in his short lived life? He was, and always will be, an amazing man who broke down so many walls that shallow minded people had once built. He gave everything he had to so many, many people around the world. Not because he wanted to be in the spot light for donating money or helping others. Money was never important to Michael. What was important was that he wanted more than ever for everyone to live in peace and to love each other as brothers and sisters of God. He loved everyone, but few really knew how to truely love him in return. It makes me sad, that now that he is no longer with us, that we are just 'now' beginning to hear and understand the message he was saying for his entire lifetime.

Prostituting The Memory of The Beloved

There are some creatures of life that pursue the dead. Vultures serve only one purpose. They survive by zooming in on a fallen carcass. The stench they travel around makes them despised and hated.

I for one try not to promote this basic instinct. Vultures are outcast whom are too oblivious to the feelings of disgust that polite society has for them.

    Not Worth Reading

This book is all tabloid fodder and second or third hand information through unnamed sources (which in itself should be enough to tell you they are possibly lies). Stay away from this book. If you want a fair account of the trial in Sanata Maria read Conspiracy by Aphrodite Jones. She did her research and uncovered the facts. Michael was framed by all concerned and should not have been treated the way he was. Take heed if this can happen to Michael Jackson it can happen to anyone.

I know I didn't read or buy this book and I won't. I saw a snippet online and I just shook my head at the lies. NO, I didn't know Michael Jackson personally, but the crap in this book is a little too out there and too far-fetched. Shame on this so called arthor for trying to trick readers and trying to make a quick buck!Hope this doesn't make the best seller list!

Not a review for the book..

I just wanted to point out that the only reviews giving this book 5 stars are profiles with the names "billiejeanjackson" and "moonwalkermj". Hmmmm...looks a bit dodgy to me. Personally, just from seeing the author on television, i think he's a liar. Just an observation.

    I Also Recommend:

    Apallingly UNtrithful

I WISH I COULD GIVE THIS BOOK ZERO STARS BUT I CAN'T...SO LET ME SAY THIS: I picked up this book at B&N right when it came out. I was a little skeptical since it was SO soon after MJ's death...Right from the inside flap of the book my skepticism was justified. With Halprin's accusations of "gay lovers" among other disturbingly and clearly UNTRUTHFUL statements about Michael's life, I quite honestly couldn't make it much past that front flap. I returned the book immediately. It seems Halprin is only an expert by his own standards in that he supposedly "predicted" the date of Michael Jackson's eventual death. This book is full of ugly lies and tabloid rumors and might as well be a hardcover copy of the National Enquirer or worse. I honestly love Michael Jackson, but this book was completely biased in a way that I not only didn't like, but found offensive and hurtful- and there's NOTHING truthful in what he writes! Put two and two together- Michael Joseph Jackson died on June 25th and the book came OUT, as in already written, already published, on July 14th..that's NINETEEN days to not only write a book, but have it edited and published AND distributed?! I write books so I KNOW it takes MUCH longer than this! This book is not only NOT for an MJ fan like myself, but NOT FOR ANYONE. Whether you liked him or not, don't waste the money simply for the reason that it's a slew of lies strung together by distant truths...if you want the truth, you simply will not find it here. Do not buy this book and support such slanderous and hurtful writing as Halprin shows us he is so good at. There are SO many other great reads out there about Michael.

    Do Not Purchase!

I can not justify giving even 1 star in the ratings to this book. This author has not spent any amount of time in Michael Jacksons life to be a Jackson storyteller. This book sheds no light on Michael Jackson or gives us any new information. It is the same recycled media frenzied garbage. I can't believe I fell for it and bought this book. Ian, you really wrote this book as an outline of your own mind and where your focus is regarding Michael Jackson....money. You are not a good man. Fellow Michael Jackson fans; don't do it.

THIS BOOK ALLOWS THE READER TO UNDERSTAND THE TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS THAT MICHAEL HAD TO ENDURE. HOW HE WORKED AROUND SHARKS WHO WERE ALL OUT TO GET A PIECE OF HIM. AT TIMES I WANTED TO CRY MOST TIMES I WAS VERY ANGRY. GREED CAUSED THE DEATH OF THE GREATEST ENTERTAINER OF ALL TIME. THERE ARE NONE WHO COME CLOSE TO HIS TALENT. HE DIDN'T HAVE TO DIE. IT'S UNFORTUNATE THAT IN HIS DEATH THE MONEY MILL CONTINUES PERHAPS SURPASSSING WHAT IT WOULD HAD HE BEEN ALIVE
