All Music Guide - Steve Leggett
It's no secret that jazz pianist Oscar Peterson was a technically brilliant and amazing piano player, and to have what amounts to a new album by him is nothing short of astounding. Peterson died in 2007, but thanks to 21st century recording technology, these eight performances from the 1970s and 1980s, most of them previously unreleased, have been gloriously "re-performed," thanks to the production and engineering team at Zenph Sound Innovations. Technically it's the ghost of Peterson playing here, or an echo of him, since the production team set up a Bosendorfer Imperial concert grand piano at Abbey Road Studios in London calibrated to reproduce Peterson's style right down to his pressure points on each key, so it's unmistakably Peterson (as the title of this album states), but then it isn't exactly, but it is. It hardly matters. Sometimes music takes unusual paths into the world. That's the case here. This is Oscar Peterson like he's never been, and it's a beautiful recording, however it got here.
