Unrestricted [Explicit Lyrics]

Barnes & Noble - Brett Johnson
Since she burst onto the hip-hop scene sportin' braids and baggy jeans and boasting a vocabulary that would make a sailor blush, Da Brat has flaunted just enough round-the-way-girl charisma and MC aptitude to win props in the male-dominated rap world. The crossover-ready rap grooves and hard-edged rhymes of her 1994 album FUNKDAFIED made Da Brat the first solo female rapper to sell platinum. But with UNRESTRICTED, Da Brat has left the cutesy, gangsta-boo image behind. This time around, a lipstick-wearing, cleavage-flaunting Brat revels in her blossoming sex appeal -- a change foreshadowed by the disc's intro, which features raunch-queen Millie Jackson. Da Brat has never been modest about her sexual appetite, and on the hit singles "That's What I'm Looking For" and "What'chu Like" which features Tyrese, she's looking for a stamina-daddy to call her own. While Da Brat flips the bird to jealous women on "F**k You," she spends the bulk of the album biggin' up her Chi-town roots, her female allies, and her affection for blunt smoke over R&B melodies, supplied by Jermaine Dupri. What the production lacks in heft, however, Da Brat compensates for with her double-time Midwestern flow and her pretty thug whip appeal.
All Music Guide - John Bush
Poising herself halfway between knowing sexual object and vengeful love goddess, Da Brat rages through her third album, constructing wonderfully dense raps and delivering them with skill and panache. There is a bit more R&B on Unrestricted than Da Brat fans will expect, but given the rapper's uncompromising stance, it never feels like a sellout. Check her hometown salute "Chi-Town" and "Pink Lemonade," and her double team with R&B singer Kelly Price on the spurned-love story "Runnin' Out of Time." Producer Jermaine Dupri spreads the synthesizer strings a bit too thick but shows his beats are among the best of the major super-producers on the block.

    Shining on purpose

Da Brat is my favorite female artist, because she's real, sassy, independant and the girl can flow. I fell in love with 'Unrestricted' after hearing it once in my brother's car. It was her independance that stood out to me, and her knowledge and game she kicked out to the sistas. All I can say is Keep Givin' 'em somethin' to see!!!!

    Da Brat Is Back

This her best CD yet. She really had given her best on this CD. Even though she was out of the scene for awhile she still has proven that she still has what it takes to be the best.

    Da Brat

I think that 'Unrestricted' is the best album that Da Brat has ever made. I have enjoyed all of her music. I think this album is the best because the idea was so spontaneous. On her other albums she wasn't as open with herself and her sexuality. But because of the change, her style is better and her beats have changed. She is showing everyone how beautiful she really is under all the big clothes. I think she's doing a great job. She keeps me buying her music continuously.
