Overview

I wish there was only today, just right now, and no forever.

It seems fitting that I fell in love in Paris, the most beautiful city in the world. And if I pretend, I can almost believe that my life is normal and everyone I care about is safe.

But as long as I’m with Vincent, “normal” doesn’t exist. Gorgeous, charming, and witty, he’s everything you could ask for in a boyfriend—but his destiny is so much more.

Even more terrifying than his destiny are his dangerous enemies, enemies who will kill for immortality. How are Vincent and I supposed to be together forever if we’re always in danger?

I know I’ll do whatever it takes—even if it means lying to the people I love—to fight against a fate that is trying to tear us apart.

School Library Journal
Gr 9 Up—This sequel to Die for Me (HarperTeen, 2011) will be an enormous success with established fans. The historical elements and the magic evoked by the Parisian setting work to paint a full landscape that has a deep otherworldly connection while remaining entirely ordinary in the very best way. Seventeen-year-old Kate has been welcomed into Vincent's circle of revenants, supernatural beings that die over and over again after rescuing humans, and with this acceptance comes new responsibility. She and Vincent are both hoping that he can overcome the revenant compulsion to die, a need for him that is "more enticing and powerful than a drug addiction," and thereby allow them some semblance of a normal life together. While Kate searches for a cure for his "immortal problems" (his need to die), he's out on his own secret mission and trying to make sense of a prophecy that means he might be the "Champion" of his people. Numa, the revenants' supernatural enemies, are an ever-present threat. The story's twists and turns are well paced and will have readers captivated. Plum does an excellent job of giving depth and substance to her secondary characters. Although the beginning chapters are a bit rocky and the incorporation of backstory will have readers wishing that they'd just finished the first book so they would have an easier time following along, this title is otherwise as romantic and intriguing as its predecessor.—Genevieve Gallagher, Charlottesville High School, VA

PRAISE FOR DIE FOR ME:“I devoured this lush, mysterious romance, which delivers a refreshingly human heroine alongside a hero truly deserving of the title.”
Booklist
“Move over, Bella and Edward. Plum introduces a world and a story that are sure to intrigue teen readers and will easily attract fans of the Twilight series.”
Romantic Times
“Plum’s debut is the perfect combo of romance and thrills, with heart-pumping action that will make you jump and love that will make you cry out for joy. You’ll hang on every word, reading late into the night, waiting to find out what’s next.”
New York Journal of Books
“Intense romance, action-packed adventure, filled with danger and uncertainty.”
VOYA - Judith A. Hayn
This is the second book in the Revenants' trilogy. Kate Mercier is a sixteen-year-old American who lives in Paris with her ebullient sister after their parents' deaths. She is enamored with Vincent, who is not the typical French teenager he appears. As a revenant, he has come back from the dead to die over and over in the place of a human. Their romance is doomed, for as a human Kate will eventually grow old and die while Vincent remains young and handsome. The numa, traditional enemies of the revenants, are without a leader, and the dead expect to be attacked. Kate convinces herself that there has to be a way for her soul mate to grow old with her, so she discovers the mythic love story of a similar couple. Will the numa destroy Vincent, rumored to be the Champion who will destroy the evil ones before Kate can find a solution—or will they vanquish him? Street battles with ancient weapons and treachery from within complicate this fast-moving tale of star-crossed lovers who meet in the twenty-first century, but one has an inescapable connection to the past. Kirkus Reviews
Another human-undead romance produces some good entertainment in this second of a trilogy involving "revenants" in Paris. These undead creatures have become mostly immortal by sacrificing their own lives to save others. Human Kate and revenant Vincent fell in love in the first book; here they fight the numa, similar but evil undead who plot to kill revenants. Alas, it actually looks like it's fairly easy to kill revenants, despite their "immortality," a bit of a flaw in the book's premise. Kate lives with her French grandparents but spends much time training for combat with the revenants, who have accepted her. She knows that she will age and die as Vincent stays young, and the two seek different ways to overcome that difficulty. Worse, it seems that a spy has infiltrated the revenant community. Plum handles the intrigue and builds tension, ending with a major cliffhanger that should compel readers to the final book in the trilogy. The suspense takes precedence over the romance as Kate follows clues, first to find more information on revenants and then to uncover the spy in their midst. Several of the characters stand out as interesting individuals, enhancing the entertainment value in the story, along with a few good action scenes. Good thrills and intrigue. (Paranormal romance. 12 & up)

Last year I was greatly surprised by Die For Me (Revenants #1).

Last year I was greatly surprised by Die For Me (Revenants #1). The story was so original and well written, and the characters were so real and lovable that I immediately placed the book among my favorite releases of the year. This time, Until I Die (Revenants #2) absolutely blew my mind, and also, it smashed my soul to a million pieces (Oh my God! what an ending!).

The story picks-up soon after the ending of Die For Me. Kate and Vincent are a lovely couple, but of course they have this big problem going on due to Vincent's compulsion to die for humans. This obviously complicates Kate and Vincent's relationship. So, Vincent starts an experiment that will help him to avoid his desire to die, but unfortunately this experiment also has its risks (which I wont give away). In the other hand, Kate researches another way to help Vincent to fight his revenant nature and help him to stay alive long enough until... until the day Kate grows old and dies.

The second installment of this invigorating paranormal romance absolutely stole my heart. If I loved Revenants before, now I love them even more! Amy Plum's marvelous story telling kept me turning pages with no stop. I love how mature and realistic Kate's character is. Specially the way she handles her presence into the paranormal world she is now part of. In addition, Vincent is as captivating as always yet, he is not the typical and perfect fictional knight in shining armor. Vincent, regardless being a supernatural being himself, feels really human and real to the reader. That is what makes Vincent so alluring. He is believable.

I love so many things about Until I Die and I could talk about the plot, the fascinating Parisian setting, the well developed characters and the enthralling Revenant concept forever. Yet, I obviously prefer you to experience this spellbinding love story by yourself. I 100% recommend it!

With a heart-wrenching ending that yet sparks with hope, Until I Die will make you feel hundreds of emotions at the same time. Amy Plum has definitely played one of her greatest cards and I cannot wait to know how she will conclude this enthralling story (and one of my favorites!) in If I Should Die, the third and last book of this fabulous trilogy. Here I have another long torture to bear until If I Should Die hits the shelves.

I trully enjoyed this book! I especially liked the fact that the characters were believable, not whiney like a lot of young adult books can be. The characters were mature, but not too mature that you wouldn"t believe their age. I so look forward to the final book of this trilogy! I can't believe I have to wait a year for it.

Until I Die picked up the story a month after Die For Me ends. Luckily, I'd read book 1 recently so I was ready to continue the tale. There were some great side characters in this series. Again, I loved Kate's sister Georgia. She was so fun and spunky, always good for a laugh. Ambrose and Charlotte are great friends to have around, and Jules was great again. I'm interested to see where his feelings for Kate will lead since he is completely loyal to his friend Vincent.

This 2nd book in the series was a bit slower than book 1 for me, not really in a bad way. The romance was already established so all the intensity of finding love wasn't really there since it was found already. I liked how mature Kate and Vincent were in their relationship. They do a good job talking through their feelings which made for a healthy relationship that I think will last.

I have to say that I didn't like how intimate their relationship was getting. They're not married, end of story. My personal belief is a man and woman should be married before they are sexually intimate so I don't enjoy reading books where the main characters are too sexually intimate before marriage. They didn't have sex, but I was thinking they would. These scenes weren't often though.

I loved the ending of this book! I know many of you might not agree, but it was just so exciting. I have high hopes for the way things will turn out. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

    Content Ratings:
Sexual: not constantly throughout the book, but when there's a scene it's moderate/heavy
    Language: moderate
    Violence: mild/moderate

    Really now...?

The began was slow and boring at times, only in the last handful of chapters does it REALLY get interesting, Amy Plum made a few mistakes in the book if you pay close attentions (in the first book the dress is blue, in the second its red), i re-read the first book right before starting the second, THE ENDING; sucks! really really SUCKS, i am hoping that its just to lead us into thinking one thing but turns out being false, Vincent was one of my all time favorite characters.

    Needs More Action!

I absolutely loved the first one. I loved Vincent so much and he instantly became a book crush. Both he and Kate made a great couple, and although they had the chemistry going on, their relationship sort of went in the way of the overall plot.

The plot had great potential and it was just as exciting as the first book. I loved the idea of the Revenants, and Kate managed to develop into a stronger character (remember the middle finger incident? haha!). My favorite characters still are Jules and Vincent. Their personalities are likable and I’m glad they haven’t changed a bit.

Although the book was a good one, there were quite a full lulls throughout the story, and as mentioned before, Kate and Vincent’s romance marred it. Don’t get me wrong, I love them both together, they had wonderful chemistry and a great romance, but I don’t want to read their sappy one liners, and how much they love being in each other’s company. I want the plot to keep going, I want to see the action, I want to see what next suspenseful thing is coming next. But I’m stuck reading on love and kissing scenes. Not quite what I had in mind. On top of that, the action really happens in the last 50 pages. So it felt as if time was wasted.

So, it’s worth a read because it’s the second in the series, but I’m hoping the third will be better. A little less on the sappy romance, more action on more Revenants please!
