Overview

Ex-Army Ranger, Brand Killien, has always been good.

A good friend, a good soldier, a good everything. .
The problem is, good hasn’t gotten him anything but a crushed heart.

So after licking his wounds, he decides to move on. And moving on doesn’t include being good anymore.

Bad sounds so much better.

Jaded and detached, Brand is determined to never open himself up to anyone again. It’s not worth the pain. Instead, he becomes closed, hardened, aloof.

But then he’s called back home for a family emergency… a family that he is estranged from. A family that he put out of his mind a long time ago for very good reasons…reasons that involve secrets and pain. Reasons he tried hard to forget.

But home is where the heart is, and it just might be where Brand finds his again.

Why? Because home is where Nora Greene is. A fiery, red-headed spitfire, Nora is a thing from his past. A beautiful, feisty thing. When Brand left, she was away at boarding school.

But she’s back now.

And she wants Brand, scars and all.

I am a huge fan of Courtney Cole's and I absolutely love her Bea

I am a huge fan of Courtney Cole's and I absolutely love her Beautifully Broken Series. We originally met Brand early on in the series and I was so excited for him to finally get his own book. He's such an awesome guy and I really wanted to see him get his own happily ever after, which Courtney Cole certainly delivers after taking you on a journey you won't forget in the process. As with all the books in this series, Until We Fly is beautifully written, gripping, and sucks you up into the story from page one.

Brand is such a great guy. As the synopsis says, he is good, and all he's gotten for it is a crushed heart. I loved how we get to see deep into Brand in this story, his childhood, his desires, the things that have scarred him, and the things that make him the hot, sexy, honorable man he is. Nora Greene has always known this. She's had a crush on him since she was a teenager. When tragedy brings them together again, suddenly Brand finds himself on the pursued end of the relationship, rather than being the one who does the pursuing. He's everything Nora Greene could dream of in a man....her hero....good.....everything she feels she is not worthy of......everything she desperately wants. I really loved Nora's character. She and Brand both have heartbreaking pasts and she also has a current situation that is heartbreaking. I will say that while it wasn't hard to figure out what happened to her, I was so not expecting the twist at the end that Courtney Cole delivered and it was shocking and totally took me by surprise, which made the book that much better.

As with all her novels, the romance, chemistry, and sexy times in Until We Fly will cause you to swoon, fan your face, and just want to melt into a puddle. I applaud Courtney Cole for the way she has addressed really difficult issues in each of these novels, and she does it oh so very well. From Pax, to Gabe, to Dominic, and now Brand, each of these guys will capture your heart and I am so very glad to have been able to get to know them up close and personal through Courtney's novels. Each novel can be read as a standalone/companion novel, but you do get to see glimpses of the other characters in them, which is something I really enjoyed. If you haven't read these books yet, trust me, you will want to. They are fabulous.

Um... a word of advice on this one, peeps. Don't open it till y

Um... a word of advice on this one, peeps. Don't open it till you're ready to finish it cause you're not gonna want to put it down. Some books fly by and others don't. This one FLIES. I started it thinking I'd read about half before bed. Yeah, so much for sleep. I was up till 2AM finishing it.

Why does this one fly? The characters. Both are broken... very, very broken. And it isn't a "we can heal" each other kinda story at all. What they've both experienced isn't something you just get over. No, it's more like they are the buoy that keeps the other afloat. They are stronger standing next to each other. They can handle it when the other one is there. I really liked that.

Nora. People can be cruel. I know that. But it always surprises me how cruel parents can be. I just can't understand that. My kids are everything to me. Nora's father (and I'm using that term extremely loosely.) is the worst kind of human being. He owns his daughter. He might as well have bought and paid for her. And he makes me so mad. I hated him before I found out what he was doing and then I loathed him. Nora never believed that things could ever be any different. This was her life. She looks happy from the outside. But she admits to Brand that she's not. She believes spending the summer with Brand will give her the strength to deal with what's to come in the fall. But a summer of Brand could never be enough of Brand or for Brand.

Brand. I have no words for the way Brand grew up. My heart hurts and my mama bear claws are out. I want to kick some character behind on his behalf. But Brand doesn't need my help. He can kick some behind on his own. He endures it and is a good person despite it. Graduate of West Point and a decorated Ranger, he's the kind of guy you want coming to your rescue. He protects what's his. He resists Nora because a fling is not his thing. And he can't offer her anything more. His heart has been shredded in the past and he's not going to risk it again. But as their friendship grows, he learns he can't resist Nora.

The story is fast paced and very sexy. These two together are adorable. If you missed my Teaser Tuesday yesterday, you should check it out because it's a fun moment between them. I had a few questions about Brands recovery and such that gave me pause. It's the only reason this one didn't get 5 stars but I loved them together.

If you've read the rest of this series, then this one needs to be next. It can easily be read stand alone and it's a sexy, fast read. It has what's great about New Adult mixed with some surprises. Anyone who loves NA, will love it.

    Brand gets his story...

Nora is a prisoner of her own life with a past so horrid that it leaks into her present. For her there is no one she can trust. Not even her family. There is only one person she would love to open up to and show a side of herself no one has ever seen. And that person is Brand. She wants one summer with him…of whatever he can give.

Brand never thought he’d come back home again, let alone be stuck here. But one girl will change his outlook on how he views the world. She will charge into his life and in the end it will never be the same again. He may have finally met his match in Nora Greene.

There were parts I absolutely loved about this book and then some I could have done without. And this was no fault of the author's imagination. Oh no. It was all because I was hurting for the characters when they faced their demons. Demon's in the form of family members. I could have done without the hurt and the pain and the lies. I hated to see these characters hurting. They deserved more than the lot they were handed. Fortunately we are watching them grow and overcome their past one day at a time. And those were the moments I could happily make do with.

What I absolutely loved was the storyline and the two main characters involved. I told you already I hurt for these characters, but there was times I was so happy I was grinning the biggest grin ever. They were adorable together. They had chemistry from the start. A chemistry that neither could deny. I could only remember bits of Brand from book 2, IF YOU LEAVE (never read book 3, BEFORE WE FALL). And apparently I missed a lot of him in BEFORE WE FALL. I hate that too. Because this guy is a good guy that deserves the world!

UNTIL WE FLY was a good, quick read. Cole did a really good job telling Brand and Nora's story. I definitely recommend it if you have been following the series. You'll want to see Brand get his happily ever after, after all. 4 Stars!

    Needs Military Fact Check

Good word flow. Words aren't stilted like so many authors seem to struggle with. If you have military experience, prepare to struggle with the ranks, though. The main character is 27, joined straight out of high school, and got out a couple years ago... as a Lieutenant Colonel. Hah! Not in a million years! Also, if you've read the previous books in the series, his best friend joined with him and got out as a First Lieutenant. This book really needed a reality check from someone who's served.

Sigh. Brand. Brand. Brand. I've been waiting for his story ever

Sigh. Brand. Brand. Brand. I've been waiting for his story ever since we met him in If You Leave. I was devastated that he was not the male lead in Before We Fall, but upon finishing, realized it was for the best. I am so happy we got to discover who the real Brand is as well as the hardships he's had to endure throughout his life.

Pacing: I am having some trouble pinpointing my feelings on the pacing. I can't decide if the book felt too rushed or if it just flew by because I was that engaged. Honestly? I think it's a bit of both. Cole has an incredibly engaging, fluid writing style and I devour her books. However, I do feel out of all of the relationships she's developed, this is the one I was the least emotionally invested in. I think a large part of that is due to the nature of how Brand and Nora came about and I just felt like I missed some critical development in their relationship.

Storyline: I have to give Cole mad props. I had NO idea this story would go in the direction that it did. We see early on that Nora has some issues and fears that stem from working for her father's company. However, Nora's fears run much deeper than she lets on and my stomach was a churning mess by the time we find out the true scope of the horrors she's endured.

Nora has had a crush on Brand for years. Being four years younger than him, he never really took notice of her. But she certainly did him. She almost has a case of hero worship when it comes to him. After Brand is forced to return home and an incident brings the two together, she can't help but still idolize the sweet, caring boy turned sexy, protective man. However, Brand is determined to get out of town as soon as he's able and knows it wouldn't be right to give Nora the no strings relationship she desperately wants. However, as the two spend time together and get to know one another, it's only a matter of time before his resolve comes crumbling down....

Characters: Nora, as I said, has some pretty heavy issues and fears to deal with. We get an idea of what happened, but do not truly find out the extent of it until much later. She knows that Brand embodies everything a GOOD man should be and her attraction to him only fuels her need to be with him. She shamelessly throws herself at him and he thinks she comes across as a bit desperate. He doesn't want a no strings relationship with her, as he feels she's worth more than that. Because of his protective nature, she believes he can make her good again and chase away the demons she's barely keeping at bay.

It has been ingrained in her to 'do what a Greene must' in order to uphold the family name. She feels bound to her obligations to her father and his company, sacrificing what SHE really wants in order to do this.

Brand's protective nature and need to save people is due in large part to his own past. After tragedy struck at a young age, he carries the weight of guilt no child ever should and has had to endure that from his parents all his life. He was especially protective of his best friend's younger sister, Jacey, and had come to think of her as more. However, Jacey was a very self-destructive individual and constantly kept running to Brand, as she knew he would always be there to save her. This is part of the reason he doesn't want to let Nora in. He knows their time is limited and doesn't want to end up hurt again, having felt like he just wasn't enough to 'save' or keep her.

Final Thoughts: I do feel the events following the big reveal with Nora towards the end wrapped up a bit too easily for me. Brand definitely empowers her and she knows she is safe with him, but I have a hard time believing that everything is right in her world now. I would have thought there would be more of an emotional struggle after finding out all she did. We readers didn't see that and instead are immediately fast forwarded to the epilogue.

I do think the epilogue was a beautiful one and very fitting for the storyline, however. It has come full circle from when we first met Brand, and I liked being able to see that for not just him and Nora, but also for Jacey and Gabe as well.

Cole has a knack for writing beautifully broken characters and I have loved seeing her dissect them and then put them back together. Each one has faced an emotional journey of their own and it is so fulfilling to watch them get from where they once were to the point they are now.

I¿ve been anxious since we first met him in If You Leave to hear

I’ve been anxious since we first met him in If You Leave to hear Brand’s story. So I waited (not so patiently) for Until We Fly. Courtney Cole did not disappoint. Brand and Nora’s story is above and beyond what I could have hoped for him and Nora is exactly the kind of woman that Brand deserves. When Courtney Cole creates a character, she goes all in. Both Brand and Nora had depth, history, vulnerabilities, personality, and aspirations. They felt real and natural and like someone I might actually meet in my everyday life. Being able to connect and relate to the characters pulls me in and holds me hostage in the story until the end.

Finally seeing Brand’s past is a bit crushing. His story is filled with more sadness and pain than I would have guessed. Nora’s outward appearance is incredibly deceiving because when the truth about her own history comes to light it is much darker than I could have imagined. But in true Courtney Cole fashion, even when things are bad I can sense that bit of hope lurking around the corner. It takes a special talent to convey that in writing, to make people feel that with your words. Courney Cole knows how to take damaged lives and drench them in sunshine while maintaining the realistic and vulnerable nature of the situation. Once again, the Beautifully Broken series adds another heartfelt, honest, and emotionally relevant book to its lineup with Until We Fly. The natural character development, strong storyline, and emotion-filled moments make this book shine. I am delighted to have finally been #BRANDed.

Until We Fly is the fourth book in Courtney Cole's Beautifully B

Until We Fly is the fourth book in Courtney Cole's Beautifully Broken series. For all of you out there who have been patiently waiting, this is Brand and Nora's story! You will not be disappointed in this beautifully written contemporary romance novel. The author weaves a powerful drama of two damaged souls finding one another and learning to heal their battered hearts together. Hang on to your heart, this story will leave you emotionally satisfied and begging for more of everything.

Brand Killien left home as a young man at the age of eighteen. Brand left behind a physically abusive father and an equally mentally abusive mother. When he was arrested on charges of assault against his father, the judge gave him the choice of jail or serving in the military. He was accepted by the army and attended West Point where he and his best friend Gabe completed their degrees and served together as officers. Both men became Rangers and served their country with honor. Brand received a Purple Heart and retired from service due to the severe damage he incurred to his leg. He started a very successful business with Gabe and was starting to recover from the damages done during his time in the military. When he receives a call from his mother telling him that he needs to come home that his father has passed, Brand is torn about facing the past that haunts him and doing what he knows is right.

He returns home and once again he is called on to help save others. When a truck runs a stop light and hits another truck carrying ammonia an explosion happens that damages a bus load of children and a nearby restaurant. Brand saves all the children on the bus and then he sees a young woman, trapped by debris. Brand goes into the burning building to save her and is trapped by a falling wall as he exits the building with the woman. He still manages to get the woman to a point that is enough to get help and save her. The accident causes damage again to his bad leg and he almost dies from a nicked artery.

Brand Killien is a hero and the one man that Nora Greene has always loved from afar. Since she was a child Nora's only feeling of safety came from her belief in Brand and his goodness. Nora is a damaged soul and the only time that she has found any sense of completeness has been with the memory of Brand. Her father is a controlling dictator while her mother tries to portray a family without problems. Everything that Nora does have been directed by her father. Where she lives, who she can have as friends and what she will study. Even her future is controlled by her father. Nora feels like there is no way out for her, she is trapped by her father and the demands of a crazed stalker.

When she realizes that it is Brand that has rescued her from the accident, Nora decides that she will be the one the cares for him during his recovery. This is her chance to make her fantasy about him come true.

Amazing! Heart wrenching! Wonderful! There aren't enough adjectives to describe how strongly I feel about this book. I didn't want this book to end. I wanted to stay in this fantasy world! This novel is a masterpiece orchestrated by a brilliant author, Courtney Cole! Thank you for the endless hours of enjoyment. Your books allow my imagination to soar...Until We Fly! ~TSRBR

Sigh...the BEST one yet! <3 Until We Fly is the 4th book in

    Sigh...the BEST one yet! <3

Until We Fly is the 4th book in Courtney Cole's Beautifully Broken series - and I have to say this may be Courtney's *best* book yet in the entire series!! Love love LOVE this series, love love LOVE Brand!! <3 Sigh - serious.Brand.hangover.going.on! :)

We meet Brand in bits and pieces via the earlier books, and although he was a supporting character in those storylines, I have been literally PINING for him to get his own HEA. :) To the point that I came onto Courtney's Facebook page after reading Dominic's story (#3) to shamelessly plead for Brand's story - I was *that* drawn to his character! And so YES Brand is indeed HOTTTTT (*all* of Courtney's men are really ;)) - but what I love most about him is that he's decent AND good AND honorable. He is loyal and fiercely protective of those he loves, even while he is tormented by his own personal demons - "duty first."

Normally I am not drawn to a more aggressive heroine, but in this case, Nora is truly the exception to the rule. :) Her aggressiveness makes *sense.* She sees all the good in Brand that he fails to see within himself, and she desires to heal her own tortured soul, find redemption, and quiet her demons simply by being in his presence. Her pursuit of him is what Brand needs - he is at a place where he has closed himself off in order to avoid future pain, and her pursuit allows him to finally be the center of someone else's world, to have someone take care of and attend to *his* needs first and foremost, to offer him the beginning of the forgiveness that he has failed to gift to himself. Nora has numbed herself far too long from her own horrible history, but her relationship with Brand allows her to *feel* again, both the good and bad. These are two strong and resilient characters who are unable to see themselves as anything but weak, "tainted," and/or failures, but can recognize the strengths of the other - and that is the beauty they bring to one another. "Being brave doesn't mean not being afraid, Nora. It means being afraid and doing it anyway" - these characters learn to take a risk and open themselves up to the other, and they can never go back after having done so. They are soulmates who truly understand the other's pain and angst - and most of all, how to heal and move forward.

While I was gifted this ARC in exchange for a honest review, I want it on record that I have previously purchased all of the books in this series, and would have for this book as well. :) I truly adored Brand's story and shed both happy AND sad tears at the end. There were several plot twists that I did not see coming, there was the return of several characters from previous books, and all of this further drew me into the storyline...to the point that I could not put the book down until I had finished it in its entirety!
I am a passionate fan of Courtney's work, and truly believe that she has a *gift* - and I am grateful that she shares it with all of us. She has again written a love story that touched my soul and captured my heart, and has created characters so truly authentic and genuine and likable/lovable (well the ones that matter anyways! ;))

"The best things in life are worth the greatest risk. Sometimes, before we fall, we fly." Until We Fly truly takes you on one heckuva ride and allows your emotions to *soar* wonderfully at the end - this is a MUST read! :)

I could not put this one down! I adore Brand and was so hopeful

I could not put this one down! I adore Brand and was so hopeful he'd get his own story... he did! It blew me away! A story full of healing, love and coming home to find love in a place where it's least expected. I laughed, I cried and I swooned. I fell in love with Brand and Nora as they fell for each other.
