    Helpful Quiet Time Supplement

Unto the Hills is simple to understand devotional that gives encouragement for every Christian believer. It is a helpful reading for spending a quiet time alone with God as each entry presents a Scripture, a message and a prayer. It can be used as an introduction for more in-depth study of the Word.

    So, So

Unto the Hills by Billy Graham was supplied to me by Book Sneeze a few months ago. I have to tell you, I am not a highly religious person, but I found myself drawn to Unto the Hills when I saw it available on Book Sneeze. It is a very well layed out, well written, and easy to follow daily devotional. As is the case with with any scripture, Billy Graham adds his insight and wisdom as to the meaning of each scripture.

For a religious novice, I found the material very easy to handle and intersting. With that being said, it didn't grab me and pull me in like others daily books (not devotionals) have done in the past. To write a review on a book that is truly designed to be read over the course of 365 days is challenging, and the information I submit is solely based on reading selections throughout the book at random.

While that may not be the sole intent of Mr. Grahams work, it does give a very random sampling of the breadth and quality of the information. Topics will provide enlightenment, encouragement, and a great way be be inspired on a daily basis. I believe anyone can find value in Unto the Hills.

    Great devotional

I have been using this devotional since January and have enjoyed it. The format is typical of a devotional and starts with a daily scripture. That is followed by the authors message and then the reading ends with a short prayer.

Many devotionals out there are written simply to make the reader feel good without any real regard to biblical accuracy, and often scriptures seem to be taken out of context. With Billy Graham as the author I knew I could expect more. I trust his writing and the theology behind it.

    I highly recommend this book.

    I really like this devotional!

It is a 365 daily devotional which was originally published about 25 years ago, but this book is an updated edition. Each devotional begins with a Bible Verse (It is sort of like an introduction) that relates to what the devotional is going to be about then it ends with a beautifully written prayer. . Some of the devotionals are long, but they will keep you reading. And some of the devotionals inside this book are short--it depends what the topic is. Billy Graham is really good at writing devotionals. I suggest that anyone who has is a beginner to devotionals, or someone who is just looking for a devotional to read, to read this book, but I suggest this book to everyone! The devotionals will want you to read more and more! It is kind of suspenseful! What I do not like about this book, the cover can easily tear or rip. But the cover feels nice and soft. :)

    truly inspiring!

look what i got in the mail recently courtesy of booksneeze, my advanced copy of unto the hills - a daily devotional penned by rev. billy graham. this actually a reprint of the 1996 hardbound classic.

    from the publisher:

"The classic 365-day devotional from Billy Graham, now back in print.

Simple, direct, encouraging yet challenging, this book offers itself as a heartening companion for your daily walk in the valley. This collection is a gentle but constant reminder that we can find help for all our needs as long as we remember to look up . . . unto the hills but especially unto the Lord.

    my two-cent's worth:

i was never really the praying kind, or i must say a regular-praying kind, but this book is one sure way to jumpstart the habit again. something i can look forward to, as part of my daily morning routine.

made to be read one entry per day (or maybe you can read an entire month in one sitting if you're up to it), unto the hills is made up of 365 daily reading, each comprised of a carefully chosen passage from the bible, an inspiring message, story or anecdote from dr. graham and ends with a prayer made especially for the book.

an inspirational read and an ideal gift to just about anyone you know. i give it a cozy spot in this corner's readers lounge which is my equivalent to a four star rating.

Highly recommended -- check it out

Let's face it; you can't really miss the mark when reading a book by Billy Graham. And Unto the Hills Daily Devotional is no exception. It's a fabulous tool for all Jesus followers.

Each daily devotional provides a Scripture followed by a commentary relevant to the Bible quote, then ends with a prayer. In true character to Dr. Graham's down-to-earth style, this book makes for easy (but interesting) reading. Its pages echo a tone of characteristic purity - characteristic of Billy Graham and, of course, of Jesus.

Recurring themes pop up periodically such as angels, salvation, faith, family, suffering etc. Some of the devotionals delve into several Bible passages to provide an overall sense of what God is saying. Others provide fascinating illustrations through parables or real-life stories. Poignant quotes from other men of God - some well known, others lesser known - also sporadically lace the pages throughout, enriching the read.

Unto The Hills would benefit anyone-including unbelievers (it makes a great evangelistic tool) and even pastors. But it's especially a must-have for new believers.

I received this book in exchange for my review as a Thomas Nelson Booksneeze reviewer.

    Classic Alive Again!

Coming from the heart of Billy Graham, you just can't go wrong. As I write this review, I can say I haven't honestly read every days devotional...but I have read several, and in the past have been through them all. Simple laymans terms abound. Easy scripture and analogy to understand and plain basic truths that are unquestionable and apply easily to your every day life.

He covers everything from the plan of Salvation to daily anxiety and worry. I know that I will enjoy (already am) going through this guide this year and hope to keep it in good condition and around to use again in the future or share with my friends and family. By the way, it has a beautiful cover design and would also make an awesome gift book!

You could do much, much worse.

I recently received Unto The Hills, a daily devotional by Billy Graham. As it is a 365-day devotional, I have not read every single entry, but I've gotten a sense of it. This is a reprint.

Entries are fairly bite-sized, so you won't lose focus and their style is meditative rather than declarative, for the most part. I don't often get much value out of declarative devotionals, so I'm glad this one leaves a little more room for our own thoughts and feelings. There are times when Graham is very clear about his thoughts and beliefs (and I'm not sure I always agree), but many times he just presents a story and relates it to our lives and then signs off with a prayer.

Unto the Hills is pretty much exactly what you'd expect it to be. A typical daily devotional. Not the most inspired or modern devotional I've ever read (Graham is definitely not a part of my generation), but you could certainly do much, much worse.

Full disclosure: Thomas Nelson provided me with a free review copy of this book in exchange for an unbiased review. I was not required to give a positive review. Join me in reviewing by visiting BookSneeze.

    Daily Devotional Review

This daily devotional is definitely a keeper. I have enjoyed going through each daily devotional as I begin this new year. Each day's devotion is designed to encourage and lift you up, which is exactly what it does. Billy Graham is not only a great speaker, but a great author, and his devotional is proof of this.

Each devotional contains a Bible verse, a page-long message from Graham, and a prayer to begin your day. One of the things I love most about this book is that it has dates. Not every devotional has dates -- you can start it whenever you want. I love that this one has each page dated. It helps me stay on track and keep track of the days I've already read. I also like it because I will definitely use it again and again. Some devotionals are hard to follow and just seem like a bunch of random thoughts put together. Each of these 365 devotions are well thought out and are practical for each day. This devotional has already helped me to stay in the Word this new year and I'm loving it!

Very good devotional for scripture references.

Although I just got the book in the mail today, I was please at how well its wrote with having a scripture on top of the page, and the devotion based on that scripture.

Every page has at least 2 references (the main one on top of the page, & the one or more in the devotion). At the very end of each page is a lovely prayer for the end of the day.

There are some pages with the main scripture, then a couple in parathineses, had a nice explanation. The devotions I liked the best are the ones that are at the start of a new season & are family based.

    Amazing!

Unto the Hills is a daily devotional book written by Billy Graham. It is the second edition of this book, and its message is definitely timeless. Each day begins with a short scripture then offers a short devotion, and ends in a prayer. This book is what I have looked for since I began searching for the ideal daily devotional book. I have wanted a devotional that was short but thorough, and that has been difficult to find...until now. Billy Graham demonstrates, in this book, why he is indeed America's most beloved spiritual leader. I foresee many years of using this particular daily devotional and would recommend it (and probably give it as a gift) to everyone I know. It is a classic and will be on my bookshelf for many years to come.

    Great Daily Read!

It's a book that teaches you that though being on the hills and mountain tops are our beautiful experiences in life, sometimes we have to go through the valley. And the valleys of life are where fruit is produced.
I found that the messages were always right on time.
It's been 25 years since the author first wrote the book, and publishers, Thomas Nelson, has re-released this classic. Billy Graham has taken over 50 years of ministry notes, study and sermons, along with a little bit of help from his wife, and combined it all into 365 meditations. In the second edition, you'll find a few minor changes that bring more clarity to the devotional.
Each day is broken down into a scripture, thought, and a prayer that are easy to read and understand.

    Great inspirational read

No one is more iconic to the modern day Christian faith than the Rev. Billy Graham. For almost a half century, this man has preached the word of God to millions of people. This year his daily devotional, Unto These Hills, has been republished for another generation to enjoy. Twenty five years after its first publication, this 365 day devotional still offers peace, comfort, and inspiration to the masses. Each day Dr. Graham offers you a verse of Scripture followed by a mediation/story, then a prayer. While the book follows the calendar year, you can jump in anywhere. What I also love is that the book is now be offered in paperback, making it cheaper and more accessible than the previous hardback addition.

Normally, I am not a devotional type person. Most of them offer little, if any, meat and seem to be just a feel good message. However, Dr. Graham's book is different. I feel like daily he points you to Christ and the power of the Gospel. While this should not replace daily time in the Bible, this devotional would be a great way to start the day. If you are in need of a little inspiration, this book would be a great resource to include as part of your day.

A Gift that keeps on Giving!

    UNTO THE HILLS
    A Daily Devotional
    by
    Billy Graham
    Published by Thomas Nelson Publishers

This is an updated version of the book reissued on the 25th anniversary of the original. There is a devotional
devoted to each day of the year, with a Bible verse at the top and a short prayer at the end of each. I think this is the best way to understand some of the Bible, for those of us who need to delve more deeply into the word of God, but don't take the time to read daily. I am really enjoying the devotionals, and his Preface, he says he never picks up the book without thinking of his late wife, Ruth, and knows that soon, they will be reunited, but until then, he is dedicating the book to her memory.

I have a very hefty respect for Dr. Graham, so when I got a chance to review this book, I jumped at it. I seldom reread a book, but this one will stay by my chair, as it seems to touch on many subjects, I can read it and understand his explainations in just a few minutes time. And with the verse at the top of the page, if you want to go more in depth, you have a location to start reading.

I received a copy of this book from BookSneeze to read and review. I recieved no other compensation for my review. All opinions expressed here are my own.

    Unto the Hills

Unto the Hills, published by Thomas Nelson, written by the respected author Billy Graham, is a daily devotional book- containing one devotional for each day of the year. A well known public speaker, Billy Graham, who is a trusted and inspired authority on the bible, is also well known for his inspirational books. Each daily devotion is based on a biblical passage. Graham starts the devotional with a piece of personal insight or anecdote based on his real life experience. He speaks out to the reader. This devotional is not just a rigid book of theology, rather it brings to life relevant biblical passages for today's reader- which is appropriate for a daily devotional book. This book is analagous to hearing a short sermon each and every day, although it is not intended to replace the need to actually attend church. His analogies are relevant as well as easy to understand. For example psalm 51:10 for January 1, discusses forgivess, and graham uses the analogy the forgiveness of sin with a chalk board being wiped clean. This timely message is perfect for new year's day. This book is not haphazardly put together, rather, Graham used his wisom and insight to put together a relevant as well as easy to understand devotional. Other timely topics include raising children, worrying, work, angels, adversity- there is quite a mix of topics which will appeal to most any reader. I reccomend this book for anyone who wishes to integrate a piece of biblical insight into their lives each day. As a blogger for booksneeze I recieved a copy of this book for the purpose of writing a review.

Unto The Hills-A Daily Devotional by Billy Graham

Unto The Hills-A Daily Devotional by Billy Graham

I have never read any of Billy Graham's published writings and was anxious to get this Daily Devotional. This book offers a day by day scripture, thought, and prayer that are truly a blessing for any Christian. While reading the thought for the day, I was able to reflect on my life and find guidance in God's word. The words are easy to understand and give you a peace that God will always be there for you though any circumstances you face in this world. This is a wonderful book to look to each day for an inspiration.

Billy Graham has a true blessing in teaching about God's word. He puts the words together beautifully in this devotional. I will have this on my nightstand with my bible for a daily read. The prayer at the end of each day is a nice thing to have. Some people tend to not know what to say when they are praying and these prayers are of things that we wouldn't normally think of as something we need to pray for. For instance, a prayer thanking God for providing you with possessions but asking him to guide you in how you use them and not worship them. This is just an example of the wonderful prayers Billy Graham provides. I would highly recommend this book to anyone, Christian or Non-Christian!

This book was provided to me free of charge from Thomas Nelson Publishers for review purposes. The opinions are my own and have not been influenced.

    I Also Recommend:

A good devotional for new Christians

First off I want to say that the summary from the back cover is just awful. It makes it sound like some pious guide to religion by some religious leader who is worshipped as God Himself is. Really unappealing. The first few days of this devotional were equally unappealing to me. They were generic, spiritual babyfood. I wanted some meat to chew over, not platitudes I learned in Sunday School when I was 6. If I flipped this devotional open in a store and read the first few days, I would most definately not buy it. BUT after a few weeks of readings I felt like the topics got more and more thought-provoking. A little more meat to chew on for those who are more spiritually mature. Granted, the book never got to the depth I would have liked, but it did get much more interesting and thought-provoking as the readings went on. Topics focused on angels, marriage, persecution, suffering, and more. I think this would be a good devotional for a new-ish Christian. I think I will use it as a conversation starter for our family devotions. My kids are 4, 2 and newborn and my oldest could understand some of the concepts in this simply worded devotional. Perhaps this would make a good family devotional for some families with younger children, although some topics may not be appropriate and may require simplifying or substituting a more age-appropriate lesson for that day's reading. Cons: Not enough meat. Not deep enough. Pros: Easy to understand. Short readings. Seems doctrinally sound. Bottom line? I'd give it 3.5 out of 5. Not something that I would buy for me or my family, but I would recommend it to others for whom it may be more appropriate. *This book was reviewed for Thomas Nelson's BookSneeze blogger review program. I received a free copy of this book for review purposes. My opinions are my own and have not been edited or influenced by the publisher in any way.
