A plane has crashed into the side of a mountain and sent many to their deaths. Those were the lucky ones. The survivors found that things wouldn?t be so easy up in the mountain. Morals mean nothing to a crowd of hungry people, and when it becomes certain that hope is nowhere in sight, people begin to turn on one another....

Time passed quickly, and soon I was fighting to stay awake and alert,"Let's hit the hay," I said staggering to the nearest alley way. Jane nodded, rubbing her eyes. A deep yawn escaped from my lips, echoing through the alley. I ran my tounge across my teeth, looking for a suitabke place to sleep,"Over here!" Jane pointed to a few raggedy blankets that had most likely been tossed by an ungrateful family. I sighed in relief, takin one of the blankets. Resting my head, I took one last glance around the alley, making sure Billy and Jane were there. Jane was curled up like a caterpillar in the tan blanket she chose, Billy was- not there? I sat up, tip-toeing towards the alley entrance,"Billy!" I whisper screamed,"Come on!" Billy was staring up, paying no attention to me. I sighed in annoyance, tapping him on the shoulder,"Billy!" I said, a litt louder this time,"Let's GO!" Billy slowly tuned his head to face me,"I'm just a lookin' at them stars," he said, pointing a finger to the 1941 night sky,"Especially that there North Star," he stretched his finger even farther, pointing to a small twinkle in the blackness of night. I was entranced, yet confused,"Why the 'North Star'? Wha about that star, or that star?" Billy didn't detach hisgaze from the star,"Ma used to say that if you follow the North Star, it 'll take you were you want to go," He closed his eyes. I put a hand on his shoulder, feeling the vibrations of his breath,"Where do you want to go, Billy?" Billy still didn't look away from the star,"I want to find Ma and Pa. The North Star says that their on the Albane Mountains," he sighed, his eyes clouding wpith the ghost of the past. I spoke,"How do you know they're at them Albane Mountain?" Billy turned to me,"Two reasons. The North Star says so, and I feel it in my gut. I've got a feelin', a feelin' that they're on those Albane Mountains, waitin' for me. Ma, Pa, Sister Anne, Sister Beth, Gran, Grandfather," his eyes started to well with tears,"Before the landslide carried them away, Ma tild me she'd be there, on the top o' the Albane Mountains, with everyone else, waiting for me. And when I get there, she said, she'll have hot gumbo and a pork chop feast waiting for me," Billy reached out his hand, as if to grab the distant mountain, and clutch it in his hands,"I'm gonna go to them Albane Mountains, I'm gonna go tonight," ~LivWas this review helpful?
