Sam Cook is a Minnesota native and outdoorsman. In this book he brings the outdoors to life. He brings one in to feel as if they are part of the outdoors. He describes the four senses when he is in the woods. Each chapter goes threw a different season. Cook goes threw not only the outdoors experiences, but he explains getting there. He emphasizes on the important stops that are made on the way. In this book you will see that Cook has a great love for the outdoors. He has a great love for life, which helps him bring out what it is like to be in the wilderness of Northern Minnesota.
The first time I heard anything by Sam Cook I was 11 years old. One night in the BWCA (boundary waters canoe area), 6 other 11 year olds and myself listened to our Trip staff read a passage from this book. I listened and it was as if Mr. Cook had writen what i was feeling then. Watching the sunset and listening I was in a sense reborn. Just thinking of that moment makes me feel like i will never truely leave the BWCA or the Quetico provincial park because they will forever be in my heart and a part of my whole being for now and all time.
