Carl Weber, the New York Times bestselling author of Something on the Side and The First Lady, introduces a deliciously dysfunctional family. . .

There is always a man around the corner. And church trustee James Black should know—he's usually that very man, carrying on affairs with married women and sleeping with one conquest after another. He has charm and good looks, and he knows how to use them. But when the tables turn and he suddenly finds himself in love with the woman of his dreams, he's not the only one who's surprised. And his newfound love quickly generates a ripple effect of shocking proportions. . .

The other women in James's church have a thing or two to say about James's new love. His daughter Jamie, only six months younger and a former friend his new flame, has every intention of dismantling his new relationship. But her plate becomes full when she discovers a mystery woman has been secretly calling her lover, Louis.

James's son Darnel always swore he would not grow up to become a player like his father. His life is the picture of monogamy and devotion—until he catches his fiancée cheating with his best friend. From that point on his life becomes one spiraling mess after another.

James knows he's largely to blame for the turmoil that surrounds him and his loved ones. And now he's going to have to find a way to bring peace to his loved one's lives. But the only way he can do this is by facing some hard truths about himself and changing his own scandalous ways.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly

Prolific, bestselling street-lit author Weber (Something on the Side) delivers a soap opera-style cautionary tale of promiscuity and lust that, though twisty and entertaining, has its share of problems. Things quickly go wrong for the Black family-divorced father James, his ex-wife Crystal, engaged-to-be-married son Darnel and 25-year-old daughter Jamie-when Darnel catches his fiancée, Keisha, cheating on him with his best friend, Omar. After getting arrested for beating Omar "until I got all my venom out," Darnel's pain and humiliation drive him to stalk and torment Keisha. Meanwhile, Jamie learns a dangerous secret about her boyfriend, Louis, and ladies' man James falls under the spell of a woman with questionable motives. As James, Darnel and Jamie switch narrative duties, betrayals and odd plot twists become the norm with at times shocking results, but awkward dialogue and implausible motivation distract from the fun. Though some of the surprises fall flat, this trashy page-turner should give fans what they want. (Feb.)

    The title says it all!!

Carl Weber has out done his self once again. I couldn't put this book down. it had all the drama and suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat. This is a must read, and would be great for a book club.

    A surprised ending

This was a great book. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants a twister. I did not expect it to end that way.

    No Good...

I have read all of Carl's books, and loved them all. Unfortunately I cannot say the same about this one.I'm sorry but this book just didn't cut it for me. The begining was good, and the drama was on point. How ever the middle of the book did begin to drag, and the ending was rushed. I wasn't expecting a happy ending for everyone, but this ending was sad, dark, and just threw me off. I wasn't happy for any of the characters, just happy it was over...

This book was really just an okay read, nothing to get excited about....

I am a huge Carl Weber fan, so I can honestly say this book was just okay. It wasn't anything to brag about but it wasn't entirely a dud either. This would be a good book for a novice reader; however a seasoned reader wouldn't be impressed. It keeps your focus and bores you at the same time.

    A great escape!!

Excellant read!! At first I though it was going to be too ghetto. I found that I loved the characters were college educated with careers. This book was hard to put down. It had lots of twist and turns. Not predictable at all. Lots of drama. Im glad it was ficton so it was okay that everyone did not live happily ever after. It was an original ending and very unexpected. This was my first CW novel and definately not my last.

    Up to No Good

First I would like to say that I love this book also. It's a good, touching hell of a book, and if readers don't get anything out of it, then it's a shame. The book is good and as you read it you'll be into it like I was. It's like sitting back on a couch, relaxing and watching tv. GOOOD Book

    Kept My Attention!

From page one, I was captivated. I thought Carl Webber did an excellent job of making the characters come to life, especially the overly spoiled daughter! Was a little disappointed in the end, but it was still a good read!

A Review By Somebody That Doesn't Write Reviews

I don't write reviews. But, I felt I had to write a review about this one. I am a fan of anybody that write in the first person and make the story believeable. Weber did his job and he did it well. Don't get me wrong there were time when I was like that was predictable but overall, I was impressed. This book is filled with enough twist and turns that you will keep turning pages.

    Loved it!

It took a second to get into but once I got into it I couldn't put it down. I'm not a huge fan of his style of writing but his books are wonderful. Very sad at the end :(

    Disappointing Plot

I purchased this book with hopes of a good read. It was a total disappointment. This is my first Carl Webber experience. I won't spoil it, but the plot isn't on point. It didn't do it for me at all. I'm going to give him another shot before i completely write him off as an author. Wish me luck!

Who Who Who was up to no good?

My first book I read of Carl Weber was the Choir Director, I really enjoyed that book. Therefore, I wanted to try another book of his. I tried ¿Up to No Good¿ and I have mix feelings about that book. I really did not like the ending of the book. But, I had more positive feelings than negative feelings. Who was up to no good? because the Dad stated early in the book that he was not looking for love.

    another great one

Wow! Carl did it again. It was a page turner and as always I didn't expect it to end the way it did. It just goes to show, things never happen the way you plan them to. I truly can't get enough of Carl's books. I love the different point of views. Another must read!
