William G. Tapply (1940–2009) was the author of thirty mystery and suspense novels; a dozen books about hunting and fishing, including Trout Eyes; and hundreds of articles, stories, and essays about bird hunting, fly fishing, writing, and other subjects for numerous publications. He was a columnist for American Angler, a contributing editor for Field & Stream, and Upland Almanac and a regular contributor to Gray’s Sporting Journal and Shooting Sportsman.
