The great seal of New Jersey was adopted in 1776 and the design amended in 1928. The shield in center shows three plows and the goddess Ceres holding a horn of plenty, to represent the state's agriculture, and the figure of Liberty. The great seal of New York was adopted in 1778. On it is pictured figure of Justice and a figure of Liberty, with a crown at her feet to signify that kings have rejected.
