Overview

Heralds are the most powerful of all angels, secretive and feared, created for a single purpose. Only those most courageous and worthy earn a place within the elite choir, and only by breaking ancient oaths held sacred can the honor be stripped. It's a punishment that hasn't been imposed in over two-thousand years, until a single reckless act sets off a firestorm, threatening to consume all creation.

Rise Hawke never suspected she'd been marked to play a role in the deadly events unfolding in the spiritual realm. Independent and resistant to authority, she isn't thrilled when she meets Dominik, an angel with new wings, an old grudge, and a mysterious agenda he's determined to impose.

Vowing to uncover the secrets kept from her, Rise soon learns that knowing what you are isn't nearly as dangerous as discovering why. Hunted by those who want to destroy her, and controlled by those who would see her fulfill her purpose, she is forced into a brutal battle set in motion long before she was ever born. It soon becomes clear that what one angel will risk to earn the title of Herald, is matched only by what another will do to keep it.

Uprising is an Angel book like no other I've read. Though I love a good romance, I am pleased that this book didn't focus on romance but instead on the spiritual (angels, minions, free spirits, the unseen). 5*****
TSK, TSK, What to read? - Kathryns Reviews
Angels...ah yes, this book is about the world of angels. Yet, it is twisted, unconventional, dark, intriguing, and just overall alluring in the vision Dawn Jayne had for this innovative novel.
TSK, TSK, What to read? - Shelleys Reviews
Uprising is filled with a remarkably original and entertaining cast. Between The Great Architect, The Scriptures, the Angels, Rise's friends and comrades- and more, these characters are captivating. By far one of the most creative and well thought out storylines I've read... EVER. A world fully imagined and fiercely gripping. This is edge of your seat-nail biting-cheer, shout and SCREAM-and lose your breath-feel your heart hit your feet-nonstop intensity.

a must read.

Dawn Jayne created some fun, complex characters and wove them into a spell binding story! She has created a world where humans are not always what they seem, and neither are the angels... A world where fantasy IS reality, where light is dark and dark is light, where strength of spirit, conviction and faith are just as important for survival as physical strength. I'm going to read it again as I wait for the next one!

I just finished this book, and let me tell you it's beyond fantastic. My initial thoughts on angels were totally off when I read the words in this novel. First off, it is an amazing deal at 2.99.... this is a huge book with so much depth and detail that I couldn't believe it was from a first time author. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it, and even better that there is not only one fantastic character, but three that totally rocked my world. I am really looking forward to the next book. Editing was fantastic, didn't find anything wrong other than there wasn't a few chapters detailing the next book.

I loved this book and its twisted idea of Angels! I love the reincarnation aspect of the story. Humans can choose to be born again over and over before they become Angels to master these sins. Even when they become Angels they aren't necessarily otherworldly! They still suffer from wrath, jealousy and lust! I have never read a book where I am going this is fascinating but how does it fit in the story.. Then by the ends we have come full circle and it all fits and I was TOTALLY SHOCKED!

I was given a copy of Uprising to review for the Blog Tour. I have to say, I am so very glad that I said yes to the Tour and Review. Uprising is an Angel book like no other I've read. Though I love a good romance, I am pleased that this book didn't focus on romance but instead on the spiritual (angels, minions, free spirits, the unseen). Rise was adopted as an infant. To say that her childhood was tough is an understatement. As soon as she's of age she moves out on her own, in another town. She doesn't attend church and has no faith where God is concerned. Dominik is a new angel and has been given an assignment, Rise. Naturally he does not like her and the feeling is mutual but the two must learn to work together. She has a lot to learn about what she is and it is his job to help her along her path while keeping her safe from danger. During their time together Rise learns a great deal about angels, minions, and free spirits from Dominik, and what some of these creatures will do for redemption.

This book was an interesting take on the supernatural. I'm not big into books like this, but I have to say this one held my attention. I am in a small reviewers group that reviews for different publishers, and when the publisher contacted me for a review, I must say I wasn't too excited to read it. But I thought, "Hey, a free book." I'm damn glad that I decided to give it a go. After reading the first three chapters of the book I was completely hooked and didn't stop reading until I finished it. It was crazy how she weaved in different twists that I never would have taken the liberty with in a christian type book. This isn't one of those 'bible beater' books, either, it's an in your face, I'm a cool kick-butt angel type book. Without giving away major plot points, I just have to say this, I'm looking forward to reading the second book in this series. I did enjoy the fight scene at the end and really liked the twist with the Herald at the beginning. I have to say I was pretty shocked with what you did there. If you want to read an excellent book by a new and upcoming author, this is the book for you. Jackson "Gilroy" James

I just recieved this paperback to review from the publisher. The story was great, the cover looked awesome, and the characters were interesting. Uprising is a new take on the age old angel stories. Rise Hawk is a young, often misunderstood, girl who has something special about her. Dominik, her advisor of sorts, is to protect her, teach her, and basically guide her into what she was meant to be. Unbeknownst to the rest of the clan, she is indeed someone of mass importance. This "herald" has been around a time or two, and to say I was suprised at the ending, would be an understatement. I will put this on my shelf as one of my favorites. Thanks to Firefly & Wisp for providing the copy, and thanks to Dawn Jayne for the great read.

Dawn Jayne's "Uprisng" is one amazing ride! Jayne carefully and creatively constructs the realms of heaven and hell, and shows how both intersect with earth, creating a place which allows the advancement of souls, both human and angel alike. In "Uprising," Jayne uses brillant vocabulary and careful sentence formation, masterfully crafting the tale of an angel who falls, but who is given the chance at redemption, as well. The author introduces imperfect, well-rounded characters then masterfully entertwines their lives, creating a tapestry of stylized characters and an amazing story. "Uprising" grabs the reader from the first page and will not let go until the very satisfying end, creating a brillant story the reader will not soon forget. This is not your typical angel story and is as unique as the characters Jayne has created. This story is brilliantly written and crafted, leaving the reader eager for the next book in this amazing series. I loved this book and can't wait to see what happens next! I give it five stars.

Dawn's characters are believable and real. She does an excellent job creating a fictional place that has few gaps. She paints a vivid picture of her story! It grabs your interest and holds it to the end! Awesome twist in the end! When is your next one coming out? Can not wait!

There really aren't enough stars for this one. I absolutely loved everything about Dawn's epic world in Uprising. From the colors of the angels wings, to the different take on religious beliefs. I got a kick out of how innocent Rise was, and how much I loved her character. I absolutely hated Shay, for so many reasons, you will know why once you read it. I'm in love with Dominik, crazy about Emory, and have a crush on Danny. I'm wondering where his story will go in book 2... I have a few ideas. I absolutely loved the ending. It's not very often that I can get out of my seat and cheer at the end of a book; this one made me want to do just that. It will sit proudly up on my shelf with the greats... Can't WAIT for book two:)

I bought this book when it was released for Nook and the story and characters are very well done. Pacing is good and the author does a good job fleshing the characters out and letting us get to "know" them. I do think that there was something slightly missing in Danny's development but I can't put my finger on it. This was more than made up for in the devlopment of some of the other characters including Emory. Some nice touches there that you don't always see. (So to speak LOL). Even Danny wasn't one dimensional, just...missing something that we might see in later books. I agree with an earlier reviewer in that it would have been nice to have a teaser or something for the next book as this appears to not be a standalone book, but rather a part of a larger story. The one negative I would have is that it appears some things slipped by in editing. There were multiple instances in the book where glaringly incorrect word choices were apparent. All authors and publishers have this happen to some degree, but it seems that this was a bit above and beyond. Spelling seemed to be fine which is a plus. Format for the Nook was definately "off" a bit as well, chapter start locations being in strange places and other things of that nature. Overall a great book considering it is a first offering and I will look forward to new installments from the author. Hopefully the editing thing can get worked out.
