Overview

Donald B. Kraybill shows how the kingdom of God announced by Jesus appeared upside-down in first-century Palestine. Jesus wins by serving and triumphs by losing. Today, God's way still looks upside-down as it breaks into diverse cultures around the world. According to Kraybill, worldly authorities seek power and prestige, but Jesus' counter-cultural message is a clear call to turn the social ladder upside-down. Jesus demonstrates radical opposition to the dominant culture by making friends with social outcasts and rebelling against authorities. This message calls Christians from many cultures to actively participate in God's upside-down kingdom.

A wonderful discussion on the Kingdom of Jesus

This book is a wonderful exploration of what the coming of Jesus meant to the peoples of Jerusalem some 2000 years ago and what it continues to mean to those of us living in the present day. Kraybill provides a dynamic explanation of the cultural contexts of the actions Jesus took and the words that he said. This opens up a whole new understanding of the enduring Peace that God provides in our lives. This book is an inspiration to those who read it to delve into their congregations and communities to seek the Kingdom.

    INCREDIBLE BOOK

This book will knock you socks off. It's just the teachings of Jesus, plain and simple, but it explains cultural things that the average Christian would not know, but that are essential to finding Jesus's true meaning in his words. Perfect for a true disciple of Jesus who is tired of the lukewarmeness of mainstream christianity and wants to get out of his or her convenient Lexus cage and follow Christ for real.
