Purpose: The purpose is to summarize adult and pediatric urologic emergencies and their management, diagnosis, and treatment in a concise yet thorough format. The authors have met their stated objectives. Although there are many textbooks dealing with urologic emergencies, there are few if any written in this format.
Audience: The book targets residents in any surgical specialty that deals with emergency situations. It will serve as an excellent quick reference guide for urology residents. The authors are noted British urologists and a radiologist.
Features: All aspects of urologic emergencies are covered. Physical findings, diagnostic techniques, and treatment options are reviewed in a concisely and thoroughly. The book is divided into chapters dealing with specific commonly seen urologic problems. Differential diagnoses are covered, as are recommended diagnostic studies.
Assessment: This is a well written review of urologic emergencies. It is well organized and will serve as a quick reference for all doctors in training. Urology residents will find it to be indispensable. The small size of the book will allow it to fit in any pocket.
