He received his BA in 1981 from Davidson College and his JD in 1987 from Vanderbilt University Law School, where he was editor-in-chief of the Vanderbilt Journal of Transnational Law. He is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association and the North Carolina Society of health Care Attorneys.
