USA Today [NOOK Newspaper]

Not recommended

I ordered the free trial of USA Today and was very disappointed to see that the edtions on the nook are so abbreviated that more than half of the ocntent is missing. I like that there is a content menu to jump to the sections I want to see more thoroughly, however the sections that I want aren't in the nook version. I checked what was in my nook vs. whats on the website and was shocked to see there are missing headlines and some sections altogether. Is this because it's free or is it really missing that much info? I plan to cancel my subscription before the trial is up.

Great for the Nook!!!

I only recently have subscribed to the USA Today on the Nook Color. I think it must have come a long way since the last reviews a couple months ago. First off, don't compare the Print (or e-print) edition of any paper to its website. The website content is updated frequently throughout any given hours of any day. So of course the print and e-print editions of news papers will be void of some of the content of the newspapers website.

I compared the print edition with the e-print edition for the Nook and everything is 100% there minus ads. The pictures and charts are all there in full color just like the print edition. The only thing I find content wise that is missing is the crossword puzzle. No biggy for me although it would be nice.

Don't hesitate to replace your more expensive print edition subscription with the e-edition version for the Nook Color!!!

Good format-Use the Content icon to search

Some reviewers say they cannot navigate through USA Today but you need to use the content icon. On the nookcolor you need to open the paper and then tap on the screen just above the "n". The blue bar appears. On the left side you will see the "content" Icon. This will help you navigate the sections such as Money, Life, etc. Also, remember that you can just tap on the right side of the screen to go forward. You don't need to swipe your finger across the device.
USA Today does a good job dealing with grids like sports scores too.
My only complaint is that I would like more pictures to show. Some do but not all.

I've had no problems navigating USA Today on my nook 3G. But then again, I can read directions and follow simple cues...

Well worth the money

I cannot understand all of the bad reviews. I downloaded my first paper today and really enjoyed it. It is easy to navigate. You can touch the article you want to read, page through the entire paper, or choose what section you want to read. I don't understand why anyone has trouble. The only thing i would like to see added is the Tech section which was not there. It worked great on both my Nook and Nook color. It is well worth the price and i will continue my subscription. Thanks Barnes&Noble for making this available.

No color, pictures, and boring

What makes the USA Today paper so great is not what they choose to put in the digital edition. Hardly any pictures, graphs, and zero color. Its just text.

Dissappointed

I have subscribed to the E edition of USA today before and was very happy with it; however, the subscription on my Nook is not like the E edition I had on my laptop. Hardly any pictures and it is not like reading the actual magazine. My former E edition was just like reading the actual paper complete will all ads, pictures, etc. I have cancelled my subscription to the Nook edition and do not recommend purchasing as it is very misleading and not worth the time and money.

dissapointed

the nook version does not have the graphs and pictures that the paper does. The news coverage is too liberal for me but I could forgive that if they only covered the NHL in the Sports section.

Worthwhile on Nook Color

I originally purchased a couple of "single copies" about 5 weeks ago and was frustrated by missing sections and erors in the "contents" function. After letting some time go by to see if they ironed out the kinks, I just recently subscribed 14-Day free trial and have been much more impressed. On the NookColor device at least, the USA Today loads and navigates well and I intend to continue my subscription.

The political and financial sections

I enjoyed reading USA Today for the last three issues. However, I also enjoy reading more sports articles in this newspaper. The outcome of New York and other cities teams scores, standings, and articles.

Editorial quality declines in 2012 and 2013

I have been reading the print and e-edition of USA Today for several years. In the past few months, the editorial quality of the e-edition has declined. City names are not capitalized in the byline, many headlines are written with no capitalization, and punctuation rules are not consistently followed. Another error is that whenever an em-dash is used in an article, the e-edition includes "-aa" instead. It seems that the programmers and editors of the e-edition have decided to switch to Twitter-style language rules. Really? Where's your professionalism? I have written letters to the editor to comment on this decline in quality, but have received no reply. Will they respond to a review? If not, I plan to cancel my subscription.

Love the print edition, not loving the e-edition

The magazines I subscribe to have graphics and are complete in their coverage. The front page of USA Today appears on my Nook for mere seconds and then disappears. I am left with a layout that lacks imagination or creativity. Newspapers seem to want the subscription money for the e-edition but, don't put the work into the product that makes me willing to make the switch to the e-edition from the print edition. Someday soon, hopefully.

Not enough to it

I'm very fond of USA Today. Well, at least I'm fond of its print version. Sadly, the Nook version isn't up to snuff. It's missing a good chunk of the print articles. It's missing the TV ratings on Wednesdays, the music charts on Tuesdays, and too many of the things I look forward to reading. But the biggest drawback is the navigation. The contents are limited to Front Page, News, Money, Sports, and Life. The headlines would be much more useful from a Contents screen. To be sure, I still am fond of USA Today, but I'm going to stick to the print version. Maybe someday down the road the Nook edition will be more robust and more complete. I sure hope so.

like it but,

I like it, but I can't find any information with regards to USA Today only being a M-F newspaper. Apparently my daily subscription is only M-F. I thought USA Today was 7 days. If it is 7 days, I want 7 days on my Nook, and I would pay for that option. That being said someone else commented on missing content, I would have to review that difference before I kept up with the nook delivery. Overall it is good and I like it for the most part.

Jury is still out

I just got my third issue of the 14-day free trial. It is a bit tedious getting around to the articles I want to read. To my utter dismay, I could find no Major League Baseball coverage in the June 27 issue. If it is in there, I could not find it and that's a problem in and of itself.

USA Today

The graphics, presentation, etc., do not compare to the USA's website or printed addition! What's the point in subscribing to this submarginal Nook presentation.

Don't like it on the Nook

For what it costs, I don't like that not every bit of the paper is on the Nook version. Only the articles are provided - none of the little charts, or sideline items. The better deal is to pay about 38 cents per day to get the electronic version on your computer - which is a virtual copy of the print version - color and all. I will definitely not continue the subscription after the free trial is up.

generic layout

tried out the trial subscriptions for USA today and some local papers. All were generic and didn't allow me to do a fraction of what I can do for free on the website of the publications.

pretty good not as much interesting news as i had hoped for but well built and all around pretty good. not sure i would become a monthly subscriber though
