School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 1-3-A child is confused because he is told to solve problems by using words, and he wonders why America doesn't do the same. His father explains that our leaders try to solve arguments this way, but that when this method fails, we must go to war to protect our country. The father continues to explain that, "As Americans, we try to stick together in times of need and support our President, just like our family and friends support us when we need them." After this discussion, the boy feels much better and is proud to be an American. Crayon drawings done by children decorate the pages. Although the concept is worthy, the execution is a bit simplistic, and the print on dark or busy backgrounds is often difficult to decipher.-Sandra Welzenbach, Memorial High School, San Antonio, TX Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.
