Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Tina Chan
Everything emergent readers would want to discover about batteries is in this book. Readers learn about its usefulness in operating machines and products, and that materials inside a battery contain energy, which is turned into electricity. They also learn about batteries in electric circuits, various shapes and sizes of batteries, standard and rechargeable batteries, and remote batteries such as wind turbines and battery powered robot vehicles. Although batteries serve an important purpose, it is also important to remember battery safety. The materials inside batteries are harmful, so never cut open a battery. Also, old batteries should be taken to a recycling center as the materials can be harmful to the environment. Large, vivid color illustrations are shown to correspond with the text. Illustrations enhance the story and they are appropriate for the age group. A glossary is included to introduce words that may be unfamiliar to readers. Although most of the words are age appropriate, an adult may be needed to help pronounce and comprehend some words in the table of contents, glossary, sources listed for more information, and index. Part of the "It's Electric!" series. Reviewer: Tina Chan
