Continuing her successful volumes 1 and 2, Hall expands the number of literary devices in this third volume by ten for a total of forty-one. Teachers can now find examples of Black Humor, Connotation, Motif and Oxymoron, to name a few. 120 picture storybooks, all of which received favorable reviews in professional journals, were selected. Most of the books are copyright 1999 and 2000, with a few older than that. In addition to bibliographic information, there is a story summary, featured literary device with examples, a listing of other literary devices, brief discussion of the style of art and a curriculum tie-in where appropriate. The Appendices are very useful. In addition to author and title, one can find books by their style of art, curriculum topic, and titles for use by all ages. This is a major undertaking by the author and succeeds in its objective. The value of using picture books beyond the primary grades is becoming more widely recognized. This excellent resource, the third in a series, helps librarians find those titles that teachers can use effectively with older students.
