I have built an entire successful commercial website before with Frontpage (which included order forms for custom merchandise, several hundred pictures of our product,  videos, custom order forms, a master mailing list of customers to contact, and much more).  I have been a full time college student as recently as 2011 using the internet for EVERYTHING.  I am a person people ask to help them if  their computer is fouled up.   I need to build a website which is fairly simple.  It would include a short daily message/video from me, the ability for individuals to sign up and post comments (the blog aspect, which I thought WP would help) and a couple of other simple things. This is my opinion of this book....SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!!! Instead of a "How to" I can't even describe what this book is!  If you are ANYTHING OTHER THAN AN EXPERT PASS ON THIS BOOK! I have no more of an idea of how to use WP than when I started.   I am suspect of all the other reviews...I cannot believe that this is going to be useful to anybody!  It is like someone talking in CHINESE to explain things.  Your eyes will begin to glaze over with Chapter 1 and it will NEVER GET BETTER! I thought this would be a step by step guide to using WP.  To begin do this, then this, etc.  I can't figure it out!  The book is going back today! I have never written a negative review before!  In order to not waste anymore of my valuable time I will end this now. I still think WP would work well for my website but this book is not able to shed any light on anything I need.  Find something else!

...but this book is simply not novice friendly. However, I suspect it is a good reference for people who are already Wordpress users.

I love this book! I'm a very moderate "geek". I have SOME knowledge, but not a whole lot, and this book is very easy to understand! He gives easy to understand explanations for how and why things are done and not just HOW to do things. I love that! It's nice to have someone tell you how to do something, but it's SO much better to also know the "what and why's" that go along with the how's. The difference in having so much more information is like that old saying..."If you give a man a fish you feed him for a day, but if you teach a man to fish you feed him for life." Just knowing the "how'" is like getting one fish, and learning all (or at least most) of the what's and why's is like learning to fish for yourself! When you understand more fully what you're doing, then you can do it over and over and over again, smoothly and easily! Thank you for this! ;)
