Utah's first non-Native settlers were Mormons, and today a full 75 percent of the population of Utah still belongs to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Although most of Utah's people choose to live in or near cities in the northern part of the state, the remaining undeveloped lands are anything but empty. Instead, a variety of majestic natural landscapes provide a diverse range of habitats for both plant and animal life. From salty sand deserts and snow-covered mountains to deep canyons and sandstone gorges, Utah offers incredible vistas and plenty of activities for residents and visitors to enjoy.
