About the Author

Upile uThixo Bongco is an award-winning TV and theatre actor, writer, voice-over artist and facilitator who has a terrifying fear of balloons. Born and bred in Gqeberha, South Africa, she graduated with her BA Hons in Drama and her BA in Drama and Psychology at Rhodes University. Upile’s love of the performing arts started at the tender age of six, when she played the lead role in her school’s take on Alice in Wonderland. Since then, she has performed in many productions, including the Broadway hit-musical, Hairspray, as well as many co-created original works shown at the Grahamstown National Arts Festival, Drama4Life Festival and the Market Theatre. Upile is curious about the mental and psychological health of marginalized South Africans and is dedicated to using her creative skills to embrace their lived experiences through education, performance and drama therapy.


Zinelda McDonald is an award-winning illustrator who is based in Wellington in the Boland. She has illustrated numerous children’s books including We are one and You are loved by Refiloe Moahloli. She has won several awards for her work including the Alba Bouwer Award and the Exclusive Books IBBY SA Picture Book Award.
