A New Yorker pastry chef signs up, and next thing he knows he's traveling north from Naples to one of the most appalling wastes of lives and historic architecture the world has seen. On the way, he comes across a bombed-out Italian family and becomes involved with them too, with disastrous but heroic results. I loved the detail in this story, and depth to which Westwood gets into the skins of his characters. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
