Really. It sorta disapointed me because it just did not have enough action and romance that i enjoy in they other Xanth books,it just didn't have any thrill to it.No heart breakers or anything. It just stunk.Sorry Piers but this one really stinks.

this book is just boring in most places.its good here and there, but the others are good all the way through. i hope no one starts with this one and then doesnt read any more of them, because the others are so much better.

A great book because it has human creatures interacting with demons and other magical animals in the land of Xanth. An amusing book with many puns that makes the plot even more interesting.

this book was actually disappointing for a xanth novel.this is the only xanth novel that i have read that took me more than a week to read.its pretty good in some places, like esk's journey to see the Good Magician. i like esk,he's cool but the book also has some pretty sorry places in it too.i wouldn't recommend it to anyone either.its not really even a good start for the trilogy. heaven cent, man from mundania , and isle of view go hand in hand togeter, but this one just doesn't fit.

I must say that this is not on of the best books in the Xanth series. There are many new interesting characters, but there is little to no reference to previouse characters. It is also disapointing becuase your first question is never answered. It is dull at times, while packed with adventure at others. There are wonderful fantasy characters, so if you haven't read any of the other Xanth books, I greatly recomend that you do!

This is a very in depth, detailed book. It is sometimes action packed, but sometimes it is very boring. If you like novels with great characters and fantasy creatures, you'll love this book. If you love books with action on every page, I'd say not to buy this book. Three stars. Thanks for reading!

Overview
When Esk, a young ogre-nymph-human, began his pilgrimage to the Good Magician Humfrey to rid himself of a seductive demoness, little did he know it would become a mission of mercy. A running river paradise and its harmless inhabitants were perishing in the wrathful wake of a greedy demon horde. Now it is up to Esk and his companions--a beautiful winged centaur named Chex and a brave burrower Called Volney--to search Xanth's treacherous reaches, gathering together a mind-boggling company of creatures to defend the precious Vale of the Vole.
