As an educator with 30 years of experience teaching all ages and a background in psychology, early childhood, and a Masters Degree in human development, I absolutely do NOT recommend this book! Because my 2 1/2 year-old grandson loves trains, I bought this book, thinking it would be a great little Valentine's Day gift. Unfortunately, I didn't read it until I got home. This book is filled with meanness and competition that is not age appropriate for preschoolers, much less for two year-olds, even if they say they like it! Young children should definitely NOT be worrying about who gets the most valentines. Love is not a contest, nor should competition regarding anything else be stressed at this age. Children need more good examples of caring, sharing, and cooperating, not keeping score or receiving physical rewards for "lessons learned." The message of this book is harmful. (My daughter tells me the Thomas-related videos are even worse, has none, and will not let her little guy see them elsewhere.) All I can imagine is that this must be a very old story from an era prior to our current understandings about the emotional nature and development of children. Please watch what you let your kids or grand kids view in either video or book form, remembering how impressionable they are. A cute cover doesn't necessarily mean quality inside!

For any child who is fascinated with Thomas the Tank Engine and friends. A cute holiday story to add to any Thomas book collection. My son is a huge fan and never gets bored with his Thomas books.

If your child loves the Thomas and Friends series, he/she will love these books. I initially began my son's collection with Halloween in Anopha. He absolutely loves these stories. I know that they will be great stories for when he begins to learn how to read.

I picked this book up as a quick Valentine for my 3 year old son, who loves Thomas the Train and all his friends. He loves this book and wants to read it at least once a day!

My seven year old loves Everything Thomas the Train! Now that he is reading, the Thomas the Train books seem to come alive for him even more. Valentine's Day in Vicarstown is another welcoming and exciting book featuring Thomas and his Friends.
