Overview

Book 3 in the New Species series.

Tammy has always tried to be prepared for any calamity life might send her way, but a sexy, lion man-beast is way outside the norm. He's huge, has the most exotic, golden cat-eyes she's ever seen-and she's so terrified of him, she's speechless for the first time in her life. He's stalking closer, growling at her, and she's too unnerved to even flee.

Valiant has always hated humans. But when he gets a whiff of the adorable human female who has invaded his territory, he's forced to reexamine his feelings on the matter. Her fear scents of pure, sweet temptation and the closer he gets, the more appealing she becomes. Once he's got his hands on her, he isn't about to let go. One thought will change his life. MINE!

Before Tammy can regain her senses, she's flat on her back in Valiant's bed. Now he just has to use every inch of his big, buff body to convince her to stay with him forever.

    Fantastic Read

Valiant is an incredible addition to this brilliant series! There is a whole lot of GRRRRR going on...

I just adore the paranormal genre; vampires, werewolves, shifters, etc. I just can't get enough of them. It sure would be nice to have some otherworldliness in our simple existence, but unless there really is a deeply hidden secret that they do exist, it likely won't happen. If you sit back and really think of some of the crazy things scientists have done in the past, Ms. Dohner's world CAN happen. Gene splicing is something that probably is being done as we speak. She addresses possibilities that are tantalizing and fresh.

New Species are genetically engineered beings that are human and animal. The were developed in a laboratory and treated cruelly until they were discovered and freed. Too different to be integrated into the general public, they have settled in two locations on the west coast. Hate groups and narrow-mindedness force them to live in protected private communities.

In the last book, Reservation was in the final stages of construction. It is a home for the New Species who are more animal then human. That is where we met Valiant, a New Species with a strong resemblance to a lion. He has very strong feline features and a purely animalistic temperament. He has no desire to deal with humans and all he wants is to be left alone. While he is lonely and desires a mate, he only wants to be mated to a big, strong, sturdy New Species female. That all changed when he scented Tammy.

One wrong turn and Tammy is face to face with a fiercely frightening man. She has never been more terrified in her life or more turned on. Unable to move let alone breathe, she is overwhelmed by this strangely perfect man. She is unable to control her body. With his eyes alone he renders her unable to form a coherent thought. Suddenly her life is in upheaval. Wildly attracted to Valiant, but confused about his intentions, she leaves him. Due to her involvement with the New Species her life is now in danger. Valiant will do anything in his power to protect her.

Tammy and Valiant's meeting was electrifying; an amazing opening scene for the novel. It captured Valiant's animal side and tendencies perfectly. While Tammy was rendered incoherent, Valiant was also blindsided. It was such a joy to watch the big man brought to his knees. When we first met Valiant he personified the inhabitants of the Wild Zone, the location on Reservation that was exclusively utilized by New Species that had little or no humanity in them. Valiant really was more beast then human, now he seems more New Species, the perfect blend of both animal and human. Ms. Dohner did an astonishing job with his transformation. He is possessive and overprotective, but he yearns to keep her and is willing to grow and learn to understand her. The big ones always fall the hardest!

    Great story!

Although I was pretty leery with the opening scenes, I like how the story turned out. As with the rest of the New Species books, this book was well though out and the storyline was great though if you've read the other two books, pretty much one of the same (Species stakes claim over woman, woman in danger, Species recues woman, they live happily ever after-- fill in the blanks with some original scenes).

I still gave this book five stars because it can be a stand alone book and if read that way, it would still be pretty original with the New Species in general. I love how these books have a good enough story line that you can take out all of the sex scenes and still have a decent book. And I LOVE the length of the books (over 600 pages!)

    Love this book!

One can't help falling for Valiant he's so loveable, kind, loyal, fierce and madly in love with (HIS) Tammy. When talking about her he always calls her "my Tammy" and sometimes it just breaks your heart. I have the entire series yet it's Valiant & Tammys story that I keep rereading. This series is in my top 4 favorite series; The Carpathians by Christeen Feehan, The Dark Hunters by Sherrilyn Kenyon, Species and The Black Dagger Brotherhood by J. R. Ward.

You will not be disappointed with these books! Enjoy.

I really enjoyed reading Valiant. They just keep getting better.

I’m hooked on this series and the more I read of them the better they become. Laurann’s writing style just keeps getting better. I really like her sense of humor. I really enjoyed reading Valiant’s story because he was the one who really never wanted a human mate. He falls under Tammy’s spell and I enjoyed seeing him fall.

Tammy works for a catering company and was given the wrong directions on where to go. She went where no humans were allowed for everyone’s safety. It’s where New Species live that are more species than human.

Valiant said no human could ever be for him. He thought they were too small and he couldn’t stand them. So when he catches Tammy’s scent it’s all over. He’s hooked from the first breath that he breathes.

I always enjoy these books because it has such adventure in them. The woman are always in trouble. There are always hate groups after them because you don’t get involved with the New Species. They want them to die out and they don’t want them mating with humans.

The hate groups are very sadistic and they do more harm to humans then the New Species ever would. I love watching them get what’s coming to them.

I never thought I would get into a series like this but it is so addicting. I love finding about different things about the New Species in every book. It’s wonderful seeing them find their mates and trying to fight it. They should just give up and give in. That’s not saying that some of the women don’t have problems with it.

Well I’m off on my next adventure and I can’t wait to tell you about the next book.

    It's a re-read

The fact that it is a re-read should say more than any positive words could. I can’t put my finger on exactly why, but I enjoy the very beginning of the story. The unfolding of the chemistry. The unlikely pair. How insane Valiant acts. Who knew I’d like romance cave man style? I adore the odd behavior of the Species. This story is one of my favorites in the series. The entire concept impresses me.

    Love it!!

I love this series! Hot men, steamy love scenes and plenty of romance. Its wonderful to see such a strong alpha male who is so in touch with his feelings. No games or faking it for New Species and its wonderful!

    Cute!

I loved Valiant but then again, I'm really becoming addicted to this series. I thought he was so cute dealing with Tammy and the way she stands up to him when others cower in fear was awesome! And the interrogation scene! NEVER make Justice North take off his suit! It does not bode well for the interrogated. Hilarious!! Can't wait to see what happens with 927 as well!
