You Just Might Cry
I'm still crying. My eyes are still all watery and my cheeks are stained with the flow of tears. Oh, my goodness that was one of the best stories I've read by Nora Roberts! This one broke the mold of her traditional third character and I think we have the war to thank for that. Had it just been another story, this would have taken a drastically different turn and I would not have cared for it. But as it is, I loved it!!! Moira and Cian are the picture-perfect romance story couple. And yet, through all her girlish ways, Moira still proves to be quite strong--stronger than Blair and Glenna combined most times--and super intelligent. This is my kind of woman. Plus, she has the guts to go after what she wants. Of course, it's not like he makes it difficult for her. And can I just say straight out that the way Moira lost her virginity was so damn sexy and tender and like the best freaking way a woman could lose her virginity!?! And I'm not just saying that because it's Cian and Cian's a vampire. But I do love me some vampire. Anyway, I loved that scene so much because Cian is so careful about the whole thing and he's...He's Louis...He's Edward...He's Aiden all mixed together into one amazingly sensitive and hot package!! He cares so much for Moira that when he takes her virginity, he puts her in a frickin' trance so she won't feel the pain. She only feels pleasure until she doesn't need the trance anymore. Seriously. As a woman, how awesome would that have been for your first time?? Apart from that, right away Cian and Moira have this understanding that their love runs so much deeper than anyone else could know. We don't really see them fight because when they do, they realize it was pointless. And I guess you have that sort of perspective when your time together is limited. But they do have to fight off what others think and I thought that was a different approach to take. There were just so many beautiful moments in this book. Between their love, Moira pulling the sword out of the stone, Moira coping with her mother's death, the two of them coping with leaving each other, the battle...It was all so damn beautiful! Like a painting. I can all but touch the Valley of Silence, you know. And I'm going to try not to get into some serious spoilers because I think this is something that needs to be read in order to be felt, but I have to say that I knew from the get-go who the old man telling the story was and I think it's adorable. I also think that Cian is every woman's dream man. He's selfish in the way that shows how much he loves you. Like he doesn't want to change Moira even when she begs him to and uses his love for her as a weapon against him. He refuses. Why? Because he loves her too much to put her through the pain of that life. I thought that Roberts did a great job mixing all these different mythical characters together. At first, I was a little skeptical because when you first begin to read through it, it does sound like a rip off of other stories. But it begins to develop into its own once you get past the first one. It's just the introductions and the basics of the battle and the times that you have to get through first. But once you get to this one, you might wish you had taken more care with the first two. I sort of do. Anyway, this was a really good trilogy and it's taking everything in me not to spoil the ending. It's so wonderful and amazing and captivating!
