Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble

Enthusiasts of John Gwynne's Malice worried that its standalone sequel might fall prey to the dreaded "second book syndrome." They need not have fretted: Valor thrusts the plot forward and draws us further into the thoughts and purposes of Corban, Maquin, their cohorts, and their enemies. A trade paperback and NOOK Book original.

From the Publisher
"It's exciting when you find a strong new voice ringing out through the halls of fantasy, and John Gwynne hits all the right spots in his epic tale of good vs evil, the first in the Faithful & The Fallen series . . . there's a lot of pleasure to be had in this debut novel; Gwynne is definitely one to watch."SFX

"With three-dimensional characters, a gripping plot, and a world that became real to me, John Gwynne's Malice is a great debut. In short, this is the kind of fantasy I love to read and I truly can't wait for the next volume in The Faithful and the Fallen!"—Fantasy Book Review

"Malice is easily one of the best fantasy novels I read this year, and one which will appeal to most fans of the genre. With such an epic debut novel, John Gwynne is a writer to watch from now on."—Iwillreadbooks.com

    Yia

Yia pads onto the savanna, immediately setting her sights on an abandoned newborn giraffe foal. She skirts the land around it so that she was downwind of the lone creature, then stalks towards it. As she gets closer, she realizes he foal had a leg missing. *That must be why it was abandoned,* she thought, then raced forward. The foal jolted its head up and tried to run away, but it stumbled, giving Yia the entry of running in d grabbing its neck. The foal flailed and kicked feebly, but after a few moments it was dead. Yia looked around to make sure no mother giraffes were in sight, then dragged it back to camp.
