CriticasPreS-Gr 1-It's quite a trip to Grandma's farm. After a taxi ride, an airplane drops the happy family at the shore, where a boat takes them to the train, where Grandma picks them up in her jalopy. After dealing with a traffic jam, country style (sheep in the road), the family at last arrives at the farm to enjoy one final mode of locomotion: horseback rides. The gently rhyming text captures the flavor of the original English while maintaining its own integrity, and the softly shaded colored-pencil illustrations extend the simple story. Slight but just right for beginning readers, this episodic narrative captures the anticipation children feel at seeing a beloved grandparent who lives in an interesting location. A sound purchase for either bookstores or libraries. Ann Welton, Grant Center for the Expressive Arts, Tacoma, WA Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.
