Being born with a severe heart defect didn't stop Georgia Davis from having hopes and dreams like all other teen girls. She had been sheltered most of her life, dependent on her parents because of her illness; but when she was given a car at sixteen, it gave her hope for a future, hoping to become independent at eighteen. Instead, she is told she has a year or two max to live. So what's a girl to do other than find a vampire and be turned! Yep, turned! She figures that's her one shot at living; so she chooses a college that is close to an area famous for vampires and sets out to find a vampire to turn her! What she soon finds is being turned is the easy part, figuring out the rest...well not so much!
I loved this story. The cover pulled me in, but I must say, the story really held me from the first pages! I loved the character of Georgia, a girl who should just be starting out her life but, instead, is told that she is dying. She didn't give up, though, and came up with a plan that would allow her to "live." The thing that made this book uniquely different from other vampire tales was that Georgia really had no clue as to what she was doing. After being turned by Dominic, she struggles with the basics of being a vampire. I could easily imagine her frustrations as she bumbled along and couldn't help but laugh on a few occasions. Her saving grace was when she hooked up with Justin; they made a great team, and ironically, he was someone she had met at college before she was turned. There were plenty of issues to keep me turning the pages, and the twist at the end, with the vampire hunters, was great. My only complaint about this book was that it ended way too soon, but it leaves me anxious for the next installment in the story. This is a fantastic book that will appeal to teens and adults alike!

I'm not a big fan of vampires but after reading Vampire Career, I may change my mind. The heroine, Georgia, has drive and determination, in spite of a heart condition that has plagued her all her short life.
Her solution? Find a willing vampire and 'turn'. Of course, her life as a vampire starts out a little rocky and gets worse. As she copes with her new powers, she finds a man willing to love and care for her. This funny, poignant, and fast paced story will snag the non-vampire fan and make them want more. Anyone who enjoys vampire stories but wants a romp that's both light and thoroughly satisfying should read Vampire Career. I will definitely read the next in this series. Georgia may have 'turned' me into a fan!

The cover catches your attention quickly and the storyline keeps it. Georgia's wish to have a life not marred by doctors and hospitals is believable and heartfelt. It was fun to see her take a goal and make it a reality. Her characters were well thought out and made you think you could pick them out in a room of people. My only wish was that Dominick played a bigger part. I'm hoping to see more of him in her future books. The Thanksgiving Dinner was great and her ways of solving the issues at hand were creative and fun. I enjoyed the book and look forward to reading the future books of the series!

Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged. This is a short novel about a girl who wants to be a vampire but has no idea how to survive once she gets there. For all she knows, vampires turn into bats to fly. Wrong. And turning will solve her serious life problems. Wrong. And she will have vampire friends but have to give up humans. Wrong, wrong, wrong! The author writes a couple other urban fantasy novels and won an EPPIE for Best Fantasy. This is shorter and less complicated than the Mudflat series but equally well written.
