Overview

The novel that was the basis for the hit motion picture Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlustis available in English for the first time!

The third volume of the popular Japanese series Vampire Hunter D comes to America in Vampire Hunter D: Demon Deathchase. The vampire hunter known only as D has been hired by a wealthy, dying man to find his daughter, who was kidnapped by the powerful vampire Lord Meierlink. Though humans speak well of Meierlink, the price on his head is too high for D to ignore and he sets out to save her before she can be turned into an undead creature of the night. In the nightmare world of 12090 A.D., finding Meierlink before he reaches the spaceport in the Clayborn States and gets off the planet will be hard enough, but D has more than just Meierlink to worry about. The dying man is taking no chances, and has also enlisted the Marcus family, a renegade clan of four brothers and a sister who don't care who they kill as long as they get paid. Beautiful illustrations by Yoshitaka Amano complement the post-apocalyptic plot, filled with chilling twists.

The first three books in this series are remarkable and entertaining pieces of literature. The writing style is both elegant and macabre, and simply mesmerizing through out. D is the greatest anti-hero of them all. His indifference to every situation (and his strange living friend on his hand) make him so much fun to read about. This plot was the best of the first three books. Thought provoking, deeply emotional, and a lot of really amazing fast-paced fight scenes. The villains had such innovative powers! I'd recommend this book to anyone!

Demon Deathchase is a fast and action-filled adventure. Set in the far distant future, it's fast pace will not leave you sitting idle for long. In this installment, D is on the hunt for a Noble who has taken a young girl from her village is on the run for a space port to escape those who would not allow the love shared between a human and a vampire. Giving chase is not only the mysterious Vampire Hunter D, but the infamous Marcus clan( known for killing off the competiton as well as their prey). Assisting the couple are three deadly warriors who will protect their employers for a price. Each warrior is gifted in bizarre skills of death dealing, as well as their own personal agendas. This story is a must read as well as a continuing personal story for the Vampire Hunter D.

I borrowed this title from a friend at work and was really surprised at how quick I was sucked into this Vampire Hunter D world. This story was really exciting and there is an animated movie that is based off this book that I highly recommend as well.

This volume is by far the best of the three books so far. It's fast paced, and action packed, with an abundance of interesting new characters. Any fans of the movie Vampire Hunter D:Bloodlust should instantly fall in love with Demon Deathchase.
