WARNING - there is some mild swearing and the book has a cliffhanger ending!

Who you are on the inside is more important that what you are on the outside... But not when you're fated to be a lab rat for the rest of your life.

Sixteen-year-old Tessa, a vampire with weird throwback human genes, is an outsider in both worlds. Always the odd one. Now, imprisoned in a blood farm, she fights to free herself and rejoin her family and friends. Especially one young male vamp.

Cody, eighteen and the youngest of the long line of ancient flyer vampires, wants Tessa back at his side where she belongs - even as he struggles with conflicting emotions about his best friend's kid sister-turned-hottie.

Jared, the cute human who'd befriended Tessa, is relieved to be rescued and wants to see the trussed-up, drugged humans in the warehouse taken care of. Only he's freaked that the people who rescued him are vampires...and then he finds out the truth about Tessa...

Thankfully, the rescue team comes to take over the warehouse and rescue the victims... or have they?

Editorial Reviews

reviews - Aine Massey
Vampire in Distress by Dale Mayer is a wonderful treat! Again, the story is very episode / soap opera styled, which made the reading fun and easy to pick back up if you have to stop for some reason. Dale leaves us with another cliff-hanger - hurry up and write 3, please.

A truly enjoyable YA Vampire read and a must buy!
Reading the Paranormal reviews - Kelly Rubidoux
Overall, this was a dark, sometimes bloody look at how trying times can help people -or vampires - rise to the occasion and shine. Tessa's story is far from over (gives that ending the side eye) and I will wait patiently to see how she gets out of her newest predicament.
reviews - Joan Baker
I just finished reading Vampire in Denial (book 1) and Vampire in Distress (book 2). I now NEED the 3rd book !! This was a very different take on the vamp vs human story. I enjoyed it so much that I read both books back-to-back in a day ;) No cleaning, and just ordered a pizza, since I couldnt stop reading !! I am going to go crazy waiting for the next book. I cant recommend this book enough ! Just know for sure, you WILL enjoy it immensely !
Ruth's Reviews - Ruth Review
I read this story a bit ago so I don't have exact details in mind. The book was slightly tweenish, but the dialogue and narrative were put together very well. At all times, this was an intriguing read, and the sometimes swift changes in p.o.v. were Pretty seamless. I truly enjoyed this read:)
BJ35's reviews - B J
Just when we think Tessa is safe and there will be a resolution to the Tessa/Cody/Jared triangle, we're blindsided by more problems for these characters. Ms. Mayer leaves us with the ultimate cliffhanger so that we are all anxiously awaiting the next book to find out what happens!

I am a high school teacher and originally grabbed the first book in the series to see if it would appeal to some of my students. However, I was quickly hooked! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE these books. They have romance

    Family Blood Ties Book Two
The war continues between the good vampires and those running the blood farm. And it seems humans might be involved as well. As Tessa gathers people to go and rescue her friend Jared, nothing seems to go right. They fine one person just to lose another.

It soon becomes apparent they cannot trust anyone but their small group. And it also seems that Tessa’s vampire heritage is stepping up for her when she needs it the most. The sixteen-year-old girl from just a few days ago is not now nor will ever be the same. And it looks like the war has just begun.

The previous books in this series are Sian’s Solution and Vampire in Denial. The next book is Vampire in Design. The books definitely end with cliffhangers but the good news at this point is...the next one is published, so no having to wait around.
