OK, Joey W Hill has done it again with Vampire Instinct, telling yet another outstanding story of sensual passion, love and the journey toward self. It has always been the uniquely sharp facets of Ms Hill's characters and the ways they survive, grow and make that startling grab for love, that has fascinated me about Ms Hill's tales since her earliest releases. In Vampire Instinct we have Elisa, an Irish serving girl and Malachi, a one hundred year old Cherokee, working to rescue big cats. These are characters with nuances and depth reaching far beyond those found in garden variety vampire erotica. Elisa & Mal breath life into a story that takes us to distant emotion places seldom explored in urban romances. The story takes place on a remote island in the 1950's. Since I grew up at that time I found Elisa's journey journey through the sexual prohibition and ignorance imposed on 50's women rang very true and added yet another layer of meaning to the story. A generation of us traveled the same road toward a sexual identity, unfortunately without the deliciously tough and tender Malachi to lead the way--too sad. I was totally hooked by Elisa's ability to abide through privation, finding tiny moments of joy in a well appointed dinner table she had laid out or a single stolen day at the fair. Her ability to simply endure is no less mythically heroic for being lived in the corners of other peoples lives. This kind of bravery honors eons of women whose lives were very different from modern women. We especially see Elisa's steel, wrapped in flower petals, as she relates vicious vampire "children", turned illegally by an evil Australian vampire lord and brutalized into serving as his hunting pack. One of these savage fledglings had killed Elisa's sweetheart and cruelly raped her, yet she chooses to fight for their right to live, despite her terror, memories and conflict with the vampire Malachi. The most deeply wrenching scenes in this tale involve Elisa's struggle to stand alone and steadfast beside her young charges. Get the tissues--you'll need em. I was so compelled by Elisa's seduction of Mal into love's embrace and Malachi's seduction of Elisa back into life that I read until 4:00 AM this morning, unable to put the books down until they each had grown strong enough for a happy ending. Since I'm at retirement age, this is something I rarely do--well, let's be honest, this is something I never do. So my advice is clear out a solid block of time, get your hands on a copy of Vampire Instinct, crank up the AC and enjoy a steamy and deeply fascinating romance.

Anyone familiar with Joey W. Hill's Vampire Queen Series will relish this newest installment. In Vampire Instinct we are introduced to a different kind of hero. Malachi is a vampire who has been turned, not born, and is Native American. For the most part he stays away from the vampire world, remaining at his sanctuary for feline predators. So when vampire Lady Daniela asks for his help in rehabilitating feral vampire children, he isn't certain he is up to the task. Enter Elisa; Daniela's servant and a woman who has lost much at the hands of the children in her care. Mal and Elisa don't appear to have much in common, but as past tragedies are revealed they discover they need each other far more than they realize. As with Ms. Hill's previous books, Vampire Instinct is impossible to put down. The characters come to life on the page, becoming living, breathing people. Malachi is extremely sexy as a vampire who resists his darker compulsions, while Elisa is the perfect heroine to test him at every turn and peel away the layers to reveal the man beneath the tough façade. There is heartbreak, there is love, and there is so much emotion in this novel it's impossible to formulate into words. It's difficult to reveal too much about Elisa and Mal for fear of ruining the story. However, it is safe to say Mal learns to master the fragile and traumatized Elisa in the same cautious fashion he approaches her vampire charges. Although the heat and chemistry between the protagonists is off the charts, it's the deeper emotional connection that will bring readers back to this book when they want a tear-jerker read. Vampire Instinct is an absolute must buy for those who enjoy thoroughly developed characters, a soul-deep emotional journey, and the perfect amount of BDSM. Originally posted at Whipped Cream Reviews

This latest installment to the Vampire Queen series pulls us back to the past again to 1954, taking off in the timeline right after Vampire's Claim. Elise, our heroin, accompanies the children/fledgling vampires to Malatchi's island where he rehabilitates big cats. As with all of the vampires in this series, he is a dominant and the fledglings fates will be decided by him. Elise is a very simple sweet submissive woman who has been caring for them, and you can't help but love her. This is a slightly softer story in the series, but no less deep and emotional. Overall this is a spectacular and beautiful love story....with a little edge. Joey W. Hill is always on the top of my recommend list!

I have read every one of the books in this series and each time I think they can't get any better...they do! This book was fantastic! Possibly one of the best books I have ever read (and I read a lot of books). Ms. Hill totally out did herself on this one! Now I really can't wait for the next one. If you love anything about the paranormal, you really need to read this series.

Oh my goodness, Joey Hill hits a grand slam once again! She is the queen of paranormal erotic literature! Does she have a psych degree???? She is able to get inside her character's heads and portray their thoughts, emotions, feelings so well!!!! Beloved Vampire and Virtual Reality are still my faves, but Vampire Instinct is running a very close third!!! Thanks Joey!!!! And by the way, you owe me some sleep....lol

This book is quite different from the others thus far in the series. First we have the introduction of Malachi, a Native American who has been turned not born into the Vampire world. He stays as far away from that world as he can. When Lady Daniela asks for his assistance in rehabilitating feral vampire children with the assistance of Elisa, he's not sure he's up for the task. Once again it was hard to put this book down, they are so engaging, this one was especially emotional for me.

I'm in Love. Mal the hero/vampire is all we come to expect from Joey's Vampires with the added quality of still having his humanity. WARNING: A box of tissues will be needed!!

Can be read stand alone In A Vampire's Claim (Vampire Queen #3) we met Elisa as a second marked servant to Lady Danny. She had met and was at the beginning of a relationship with a worker named Willis. They had been assigned to take care of the children turned to vampire hounds by Ruskin. In Vampire Instinct we find out that one of the vampire fledglings got loose and raped and hurt Elisa in front of Willis’ dying body. In an effort to decide what can be done for the vampire fledglings and Elisa Lady Danny sends them to a Florida island where the Native American Vampire Malachi rehabs big cats.  There is also a brief mention of Derek Stormwind who is an important character in Something About Witches (Arcane Series #1). This installment of the Vampire Queen series dwells less on the psychology of sex then on a romance between two hurting souls. And again I really enjoyed

Joey hill has a writing style and topic adapation to bring even the most openly sexual person to feel the need to hide in a closet to read this book series. Like when we were embarrassed to talk about sex, never mind submissives and dominants and would hide in the closet to read playboy or play girl. Might even go so far as to say, that even, Hugh Hefner would blush. Then add in some seriously sexy vampires to these stories and the extreme mix of generes makes this series my extreme guility pleasure.
