Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Michael Jung
With all of the vampire love stories out there—from Buffy the Vampire Slayer to Twilight—do readers really want another story about a girl and her undead boyfriend? Well, if you're talking about the "Vampire Kisses" series that has enjoyed success as a collection of prose novels and several manga adaptations, then the answer is a definite "yes." In Blood Relatives, goth teen Raven Madison's romance with vampire Alexander Sterling is upset when Alexander's half-vampire cousin Claude comes to town searching for vials of pure vampire blood. To get rid of him, Raven and Alexander create a counterfeit map that will lead Claude to some fake blood vials. But when Claude offers to make Raven a vampire capable of spending an eternity with Alexander in exchange for the real vials, Raven wonders if she shouldn't help him find them after all. Curiously, while most such stories show off a vampire's powers, the vampires in this book do little more than flash their fangs, making them seem like vampires in name only. Instead, the manga focuses on romance, with Raven and Alexander kissing and professing their love for each other on every other page. This might annoy fans of action-oriented vampire tales, but for readers who like their vampires with artistic souls and attractive manga-style eyes, Blood Relatives will not disappoint. Raven is back, along with her vampire boyfriend, Alexander, and trouble is still following them around town.

Alexander's cousin, Claude, along with his gang, is unfortunately continuing to grace them with their presence - and it is definitely not for good reasons. Raven is doing all she can to protect her family from these half-vampires, even resorting to the age old trick of garlic necklaces placed around the house.

But Raven knows that the only way Claude will leave and stop bothering her is if they finally find the vials that will aid them in turning into true vampires. So now Raven and Alexander must come up with a plan to find the vials before Claude can get to them.

Alexander then remembers a map when he was little that could possibly be the key to finding the vials; if only he could remember where that map is now. Not being able to work together during the day, Raven and Alexander must work quickly with the limited time they have, in order to prevent Claude and his gang from becoming the full vampires that they have yearned to be.

But can a team of two go up against a gang of four?

Quick and entertaining, the second in the VAMPIRE KISSES manga series is just as captivating as the first. The plot is gripping, the drawings are amazing, and each page will have readers at the edge of their seats. Fans of the novel series will want to sink their teeth into this manga installment - just be warned, it definitely isn't over yet.

I Hope The Next One Comes Out Soon

I deffinatly like the way they've made this series into manga books. The story is different from the novel books which makes it more interesting. The characters are very interesting in this book and they're aren't long dull parts at all. It moves at a good pace and keeps the reader wondering a little.

Vampire Kisses Blood Relatives vol. 2

I loved vol. 1 and Vol. 2 continues where the first left off where Raven and Alexander find out that 4 graves have been dug up and four new vampires arrive at Raven's school. In this book Claude and his gang are trying to find some vials that'll help him become a full fledged vampire and Alexander may have the answer. While Raven still thinks whether she is really happy not being a vampire while with Alexander. Its a really good series and the book series isn't bad either. Got to hand it to Rem the drawings are awesome, especially the facial expressions on the characters faces. So all in all check the sequel but read the first.
