Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Claudia Mills
In this fourth title in the "Vampire School" series, the students at St. Orlok's Primary School for young vampires are in for an unpleasant surprise when their teacher Miss Gargoyle falls ill with bat flu and their substitute turns out to be a monster "ten feet tall and five feet wide...dressed completely in black and [clutching] a little pink handbag," who is delivered to the school in an enormous crate overseen by the school's sinister zombie caretaker. It is fun enough for young readers vicariously to attend a school where the curriculum focuses on "cloak swishing," "scary staring," and "how to change into bats." It's even more fun to try to figure out the secrets surrounding a mega-monstrous substitute teacher. Why do students at the nearby werewolf school report that terrifying, terrorizing Miss Fitt was the nicest teacher ever when she subbed at their school? And why is Miss Fitt still in the school when it's locked for the (stormy) night? Fast-paced and funny, this dose of vampire merriment should keep emerging chapter book readers breezing along as scary Miss Fitt STOMP STOMP STOMPS right along with them. Reviewer: Claudia Mills, Ph.D.
