Overview

The immaculate creature known as Florian Ribeni prized being a Vampire for he was vain enough to choose beauty and youth over wisdom and wise enough to appreciate a life without the boundaries of death, illness, or poverty. Not quite tied to gender preference Florian spent his nights lusting after the unattainable or engaging in sexual misadventures while shirking anything resembling responsibility. The last to serve his community he preferred the lighter aspects of life, fashion, gossip, good wine laced with sanctioned blood and seduction. Florian loved seduction above all things and if not for a troublesome Elf, a demon bandit, his personal anger at witnessing the demise of Vampires, he would be leading the aimless, artless, and trite life that he adored. Then there was the Pixie, an inebriated sot with sudden affections and even more sudden dislikes. Beb decided Florian was his new best friend and offered his much unwanted and erratic help to the newly conscripted Runner. Chasing after a deviant Vampire and running from a cannibal cult the pair was determined to save the world—if only an annoying Mage and some arrogant demons would keep out of the way.

Katri Cardew presents original realms with a writing style rich in description and full of diverse creatures’ where trepidation seems the norm. The main character, Florian Ribeni moved on from humanity the moment he had accepted his life as a vampire, living a life of self-indulgence and seduction. After ending up on the roof of the building holding the Velave Ball he finds himself caught between vanity, bricks, Gargoyles, Raiders, Martyc & an Elf does his life he so loves turns upside down. Leading to a path as a Runner, an influential position with escapades like no other to protect against the danger that may lead to certain doom, if immortal worlds are relieved to the mortal ones. The events that unfold within this book are not for the fainthearted and would entice anyone looking for a bloodthirsty retreat into a world full of mystical creatures & mere mortals. The writer had developed realms and characters with depiction in such a way I was utterly engrossed from beginning to end making this one of my favorite reads. This is the perfect book for people who want to retreat into paranormal fantasy.

Something different in the vampire world

Beautifully written book reminiscent of an early Anne Rice tome. I especially liked that the author really took the time to explain the different societal types, norms and characters so as not to be confusing. This was a compelling, fast-paced book that didn't sag in the middle like so many epic stories. Our main character Florian Ribeni enjoys his idle and shallow vampire life until his way of life is threatened. Instead of plotting his next sexual conquest and dining in grand halls he finds himself a soldier in an unwanted war. I would recommend this book to any reader looking for an other-worldy story that is full of depth and beautiful imagery. Well done!

I was expecting just another Twilight wannabe when I was asked to review, but thankfully Vampiris Sancti: The Immaculate Adventures of One Florian Ribeni is nothing at all like that. Instead you get a book that throws the focus onto vampires and other creatures of the realm with great comedic timing between many. Mainly Florian and Beb, a vampire and pixie. Also throw in a little danger within their relationship and it instantley becomes on you want to follow through to the end. Vampiris Sancti: The Immaculate Adventures of One Florian Ribeni also isn't a book one can just sit down and read here and there. You really have to pay attention and also give it your full dedication when reading. In that case it may not be for everyone, but those looking for a wonderfully weaved world and a totally engrossing novel, will surely enjoy the world Katri as created.
