Bold strokes of genius: The amazing work of a tormented soul

Vincent van Gogh’s story is one of the most ironic in art history. Bold strokes of genius: The amazing work of a tormented soul

Vincent van Gogh’s story is one of the most ironic in art history. He lived an unhappy and difficult life during which his work received almost no appreciation—finally killing himself by a bullet to the chest, so great was his despair—and is now widely considered one of the most important painters of all time, his works fetching record prices of tens of millions of dollars at auction. This comprehensive study of Vincent Van Gogh (1853-1890) represents a rarity in art history: a detailed monograph on his life and art combined with a complete catalogue of his 871 paintings. These volumes also reproduce most of Van Gogh’s paintings in color.

It is a 2 volume set

Two volumes and hardback in a slip case. Books are 9 1/4 x 7 1/2 inch aprox little small than you might first think . Pantings are layed out by date first painting Oct 1881 last July 1890 . I paid 20$ for a set less the jacket a wonderful buy . If you are going to buy a book about Vincent this is the book to start with and you find it hard to improve on when you are ready for a second . Forward states it contains 83% of his 870 paintings in color many for the first time .

NOT A 2 VOLUME BOXED SET!!

From the Editor's Description I expected a lot more than what I recieved. Although it is not a 2 volume boxed set as desribed in the Editor's Notes, it is a very nice book with wonderful photographs.
