This pioneering volume provides a thoughtful, experienced and data based exploration of all these issues, arriving at reasonable conclusions that should provide considerable clinical guidance and wisdom to every reader.

Editorial Reviews

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Elliot L. Chaikof, MD, PhD (Emory University Hospital)
Description: This book provides a broad overview of vascular disease in the geriatric age group.
Purpose: The editors intended to cover the general subjects of aging, medical, and surgical risks unique to the elderly, and the medical and surgical management of specific vascular disease. This is an important topic area in view of our rapidly aging population, finite healthcare resources, and the complexity of the decision-making processes involved in the care of elderly. The book is largely successful at meeting its objectives.
Audience: Healthcare providers are the target audience, but this text will be of greatest benefit for the primary care physician whose practice focuses on the elderly patient. The editors and contributors are well respected in their fields.
Features: The book is appropriately illustrated and contains a large number of useful tables and graphs. However, figures occasionally lack legends and tables are misreferenced in the text. Overall, citations are practical and up-to-date. Sections on diabetes mellitus and infrainguinal occlusive disease are particularly well written, but the chapter on the surgical ICU is somewhat dated.
Assessment: This book encompasses a multidisciplinary effort to address a number of important clinical issues related to the management of elderly patients with coronary and peripheral vascular disease. It will prove most useful to the primary care physician.
From the Publisher
"This book offers an excellent remedy to a serious deficiency by providing long-overdue substance for the "vascular" that has been missing from the oft-used phrase 'cardiovascular disease in the elderly'".
