Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
“This is an excellent resource for physicians training in noncardiac vascular medicine, surgical residents, or other physicians who are interested in learning the fundamentals of vascular medicine and endovascular medicine.” (Doody's Reviews)
Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Katherine Brown, DO (Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine)
Description: This is a general overview of vascular medicine and basic endovascular principles for the treatment of vascular disease. It briefly reviews the fundamentals of noncardiac vascular disease in an instructional format.
Purpose: The purpose was to provide a comprehensive book written by experts in the field of vascular surgery and medicine specifically tailored for physicians interested in vascular medicine or preparing for board certification in general vascular medicine.
Audience: Physicians training in the field of noncardiac vascular medicine and endovascular medicine are the intended audience. However, it is an excellent resource for any clinician desiring a comprehensive overview of vascular and endovascular medicine.
Features: What makes this book unique is the concise review of vascular biology, the diagnosis and treatment of arterial and venous disease, and the basics of endovascular treatments that is geared toward the non-surgeon vascular specialist. The chapter format provides a well structured overview of the topic with relevant charts and tables followed by questions at the conclusion of each chapter to test the reader's comprehension. The impressive group of contributing authors provides the most current information available as do the references following each chapter. More images would have made the book more interesting to read. A discussion of the landmark research articles in vascular surgery and vascular medicine might be an interesting addition and a good reference for readers. In addition, a companion CD-ROM sample exam including images and diagnostic imaging questions would be an excellent adjunct.
Assessment: This is an excellent resource for physicians training in noncardiac vascular medicine, surgical residents, or other physicians who are interested in learning the fundamentals of vascular medicine and endovascular medicine. A second edition with expanded questions in an exam format may be a useful addition for those preparing for the board exam in vascular medicine.
