    disturbing

this is a disturbing tale of drugs murder and rape. i didn't read the whole book and maybe my mistake but skipping chapters and reading how a physco can cut a new born baby's pinkie off or rape the mother with a turkey baster, i can get that from my daily paper which i stopped reading because of that crap. so if you have a strong system to stomach this than maybe it's a good read just not my cup of tea

    Vengeance

"Vengeance" is an intense, fast moving thriller. Steve Williams is one of those characters who, although on the right side, stretches the rules and makes overly risky decisions. He's the kind of character who in real life I would despise (law enforcement stretching rules is a pet peeve) and wouldn't last long, either by getting fired, incarcerated, or killed. But this larger-than-life persona is something I like in fiction. In "Vengeance," Williams is clearly the good guy, and although he sometimes stretches the rules and takes some risks, it doesn't cross the line - at least not by too much. "Vengeance" has some relatively minor supernatural aspects, although they are a major element in the story.

Excellent Writer! Excellent series! I just had to keep reading. Once I finished each book, I just had to go on to the next one. They are quite graphic, but most of us who enjoy the thrillers are not surprised by it. I am now going back to the first in the Steve Williams Series, Dark Reckoning, which I missed. Then, I will be reading the Games Trilogy Series which involves the Ryan's prior to the Steve Williams Series.

A Review by Mind Fog Reviews

J.E. Taylor's book "Vengeance" is a gripping novel about Steve Williams.an undercover FBI agent who is working as a lawyer working for Charlie Wisnowski.a drug dealer that no one has been able to catch. Charlie tries to get Steve hooked on cocaine and have him indebted to him for helping him protect his wife from a serial rapist/killer. Does he succeed or does Steve's wife and Steve's desire to catch him win?
It was fast paced but J.E. Taylor took the time to make sure the characters came alive and the plot was well thought out. For instance, she made Steve struggle with his doing his job and protecting his family just like any man would do in his circumstance. "Vengeance" had me by the first chapter and I almost had the book read by one night. This is the perfect book to read on the beach or near a pool this summer. I was amazed at this novel and know that others will react the same way. You just can't ignore the events that captivate you from the beginning. This author has produced a genuine thriller!

    Graphic in every way

"Vengence" is a study in human vengence and man's inhumanity to man. The author has crafted a story which presents evil in a very deadly way. The sex is graphic. The murders are graphic. Man's propensity for evil is graphic. Each person involved goes to extremes which are graphic.
This reader had a hard time reading because of the evilness and sadisticness presented.
    Read at your own risk!

Well written, but very dark. The main character is definitely a non-hero and didn't boost by faith and confidence in the FBI. Definitely won't be reading any more books by this author.

Excellent story, not for the light hearted.

Fast moving with twists in the plottings of well defined characters. Difficult to put down and quite brutal in parts. Bad characters are REALLY bad and it seems that justice is not just around the corner for the protagonist. Rather intense novel.

    Very poor ending.

This is absolutely the most bloodthirsty books I have ever read, and for the first 750 pages held an anticipation tp see what would happen next. Then all of a sudden-THE END. The readers are left up in the air. I don't like books that do not have an ending, or at least that leave a reader
    without an ending.

Wonderful - couldn't put it down

This is one of those books that are impossible to put down. Once I finished I immediately looked for more by the same author and found that this was the second in a series so I bought the first and third books. There are others but I'll wait until I finish these. Really good story. Loved it. Can't wait to read the others.

    Author Poppet reviews Vengeance

This novel was my introduction to Taylor's writing. It's a crime thriller which follows FBI agent Steve Williams deep undercover inside a cocaine ring. With each chapter the tension mounts as Taylor turns the screws in using multiple and excellent techniques to grip the reader and stress them out. Jennifer's visions of The Slasher serial killer coupled with Steve's ever increasing fear of being caught as the mole working for a vicious, cunning and intimidating crime boss (Charlie) continue to escalate the tension. I enjoy crime thrillers and this one was intense. It seems to be a trend now as Taylor is the third published lady author I've read who wrote about a serial killer gunning for a female. One thing all of these have in common is the personal connection between psycho and victim. This is going to be a particularly difficult review to write without giving the brilliant twists away. Call it the cryptic review of an excellent book. Steve to hold and keep his cover is forced at gunpoint to break the law and begin consuming the *boss's* product. When his wife becomes part of the picture, Charlie's interest in her pushes Steve to the edge emotionally with his instincts wanting to protect Jennifer yet unable to do so without breaking his cover and throwing years of undercover work down the toilet. The chapters are short and to the point. This isn't overwritten which adds to the excellent pace of the book. By the halfway mark I had to keep reading. A testimony of excellence is that I read this all in a few hours. And toward the end when the attacks are so brutal and explicit, I was literally reading through my fingers. (And I thought my scenes were brutal - Taylor takes it to the very edge of what you can stand to read). I wanted a happy ending. I really did. The ending is not what I anticipated and it makes you wonder how much love is required to hold a couple together? How much can they go through and survive? Adversity ties some people together stronger than ever, yet I don't see Jennifer and Steve staying together after this. Because too much was lost - also the psychology behind it would also ruin their intimacy in the future (it goes with the territory.) It's a great crime thriller - it was an excellent read, it moves at a frenetic pace with multiple character threads being woven through it to culminate in an explosive ending. I recommend it as a gripping read you won't be able to put down.
